Time for an oil and filter change

Post by GrandadMonkey »

Serviced both our cars this weekend. The Peugeot was easiest to work on.

The 206cc took just 1/2 hour to change the oil and oil filter. Cost just under £35 using genuine Peugeot filter & Total Quartz 9000 5w40 Fully Synthetic bought from our local dealer Robins & Day in Leicester. Good value. OK for another 2 years now in theory, although an annual service doesn't go amiss. I vacuumed the pollen filter after shaking it clean, and the air filter looked OK for at least another 2 years. Brake pads all OK and easy to check by looking through the alloy wheels. Another 4 years before the cam-belt is due. The car has only done about 24k miles. Still like new. Lovely little car.

The VW Golf 2.0 TDi SE Estate took me 1.5 hours. The time consuming bit was getting the cover off from under the engine (the 206cc doesn't have a bottom cover). Apart from that the job was about the same and again cost about £35 using a Mahle oil filter and Millers Trident 5w30 Longlife oil meeting VW.507 spec. OK for another 10,000 miles being a diesel. Next service will include a cam-belt and water pump at over 70,000 miles. Must start saving up now as I shall leave that job to my local VW indy who has quoted me £325 including the water pump.

It is good to do the work myself. I'm not paying expensive garage prices and I know the work has been done thoroughly. The weather was kind too, warm & dry.

Regards to everyone, Ron
