Creaking Noise.. help!

Post by sam919 »

Hello :)

I have just purchased a 2007 peugeot 206 cc which has done 36,000 km. I am noticing a creaking noise on the front left hand side of the car which only seems to happen when turning left. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what it may be. It sounds similar to when you get in the car or move around in the car and it creaks slightly. Its driving me a little crazy. haha.

thanks heaps.

Probably just the shock absorber. You said it had been standing for 6 months. Things get like that through lack of use. If it is the shock absorber it will probably creak when you bounce up and down on the front near side wing. If so I'd try spraying WD40 around the suspension unit under the nearside front wing, behind the wheel. Particularly on the spring and where the spring sits in its cup housing, and on the piston rod if you can see it. Then use the car regularly and you may find the creaking disappears.

If after several weeks things haven't improved then a new shock absorber could well cure it, but if it is working fine (but simply creaks) then that is an expensive cure for a squeak.
