starting problems

i was driving my 206 grand tourisme earlier and parked up and went to start it again straight away and it sounded like the battery was dead and wouldn't do anything. i jump started it but as soon as i released the throttle it died. i jump started it again and kept the revs up and gave it a little run and it seemed fine and started again straight away after i turned it off. does anyone know what the problem could be as i am new to this site?
