yesterday whilst driving my car would not go into gear there was a clunking sound a small amount of smoke came out from under the front of car, i got it into reverse then put it in first and got it to side of road. now the clutch feels ok and goes into gear whilst stationary but wont pull away. when you touch the brakes it sounds like your pumping air the noise is coming from passengers side.
the car is under warrenty until 31st march 2008 but the clutch will only be covered if its snapped
prior to this happening the car felt a bit sluggish like it needed oil but apart from that it was running fine
clutch or breaks

Hello siantel, and welcome to the forum.
You don't tell us much about your car. Model? Year? (I presume 05 plate if it has a 3 year warranty). Mileage? Who services it? When last serviced?
Check your master cylinder hydraulic fluid level. It is just behind the battery. It sounds as if the level could be low. That would cause the clutch to not disengage properly and will also result in ineffective brakes. If it gets too low then air gets in the hydraulic system which is not good at all.
If you find that your hydraulic fluid is low, don't be tempted to just top it up. Find the leak too! It has been known for leaking brake/clutch fluid to drip onto the alternator and ruin that. Then your charging circuit will fail and you would need a new alternator - and they are not cheap. The smoke you saw could have been from hydraulic fluid getting onto the alternator.
Alternatively your master cylinder or servo may have failed. A leaking servo will make a hissing noise.
If you have a fluid leak then that should be covered by the warranty I should think, so get it done now! If it is the servo or master cylinder they should definitely be covered if you've had the car serviced on schedule at a Peugeot garage.
Let us know how you get on, and what the result is.
Best Wishes, Ron
