Hello!!

I've only just joined this site so bear with me:(

I've got a 206cc 2001 automatic. I recently took it in as it was what i can only describe as "jolting" accasionally when it went from 2nd to 3rd gear. Peugeot have told me my car will require a new gear box, supplied and fitted over £2100!

When i asked how such a thing could happen to my car I was told "your just unlucky love" - that made me feel so much better!!

I've put my complaint in writing to head office but they havent exactly been helpful.

Has this one happened to anyone else???

Louisa - very p*ssed off 206 cc owner!!

Bad luck? I thought everyone knew that French auto transmissions are a frequent problem area.

From Honest John's website

Could you recommend any automatic gearbox specialists prepared to service and rebuild automatic boxes rather than simply replace them?
• King Automatics, The Chalk Pit, College Road, Epsom, Surrey, tel: 01372 728769.
• Automatic Transmissions (Tattersall), Tattersall Bridge, near Coningsby, Lincoln, tel: 01526 342956.
• JP (Automatic Transmissions) Ltd, www.jpat.co.uk, Units 4a & 4b Pear Tree Ind Est, Upper Langford, N Somerset, BS40 5DJ, tel: 01934 852772.
• Sussex Automatics,www.sussexautos.co.uk
• FEDERATION OF AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ENGINEERS,www.fedauto.co.uk

Try one of them. Could save you money.

Hi Reap,

sorry to bother you mate, but I'm having a really hard time with this . Peugeot have come back to me and have offered to pay 50% for the part (s) need to fix to the car as a "good will gesture". I think a new gear box was nearly £1600 and then £545 for them to fit it. So basically this will leave me with a bill of about £1345.

Dont laugh but is this a good offer?!!?:hyper:

tis good the have offered to pay half as good will,2001 car well out of warranty period
have fitted a auto box recently and a newie cost £2500 and £500 to fit
me guessing they fitting a exchange unit or recon??
so although it does sound alot tis a good deal they are offering you, espcially as they could make you pay the whole bill.
what was exact fault, diag they gave you??
most problems on the al4 utobox is pressure related and normally be cheaply fixed.
would only normaly change a whole box if somthing went v wrong with it(ie)bearing failure, gear broken??
have they given you a diag print out??.
are they a main dealer??.

I've just had a new gearbox fitted at 5000 miles! I was told I had just been unlucky too! The car was in the garage for a week!

Hi there,

I am Rudyn from Malaysia. I just bought a 2003 206cc 1.6 Auto for my daughter who is coming from Australia after her graduation. I have driven the car for 1 week now, after changing the auto transmission fluid, power steering fluid and coolant.

My 1st ugly experience is that the engine heat up to 110 when we drive up Genting Highlands, a resort in Malaysia. What could be the problem? It did not go to the red section, but this is unlike most European cars which I have owned.

Then, when driving at 2000 RPM and below, the transmission jerks and the whole car rocks and it is most obvious when the roof is down. I know that at low RPM, the gear would downshift but it is jerky. Do anyone has this problem?
