I love racing mini's they're easy fodder.
Assuming you mean MINIs (new fat lard-arse ones) rather than Minis (Issigonis's originals), I don't think you'd find a Cooper S easy fodder... ;)

Must admit couldnt say for sure if I’ve ever raced a cooper S- only coopers for sure. But if the acceleration times are as exaggerated as they are on the coopers then I will give it go. :P

Why are British built cars so over rated Civics, Minis etc? :?

I've been in a few MINI's (a Mini One and Cooper S) and personally I think they're fantastic cars. The interior is great for the price of the car and the handling of the Cooper S is superb.

I think the main problem is that nothing can live up to the cult of the original Mini no matter how good it is. If you think of it as a completely different car as opposed to a new version or replacement you can't go much wrong. Maybe BMW should have called it something different?

BMW spent millions developing the new mini even in small details. They spent two million trying to get the indicator relay to sound the same as the original, has anyone driven a cooper s? what do they go like?

Unfortunately my experience of the Cooper S was from the passenger seat... we had one over in USA and we did nearly 1000 miles in it in a week but unfortunately I wasn't insured to drive it :(

From what I could tell though, the acceleration was pretty impressive. The car is small but it is actually quite heavy so the 168BHP (or whatever) doesn't go as far as it could.

The biggest problem that the driver had was the gearbox. It's the 6 speed manual one and the gear ratios seem to work well with the car, but the spring-loaded neutral point isn't directly between 3rd and 4th which really annoyed him. I'm not sure if this was a problem with just this particular car or a characteristic of all MINIs but it was pretty bad.

I also didn't find the leather seat very comfortable - the lumber support seemed to stick out too far even when pulled right back.

But the rest of the car was fantastic. Cornernig/handling was excellent and it was great being able to nip around everyone on the interstates (you can legally undertake on the USA, woohoo!)

The 'Works' kit takes the Cooper S to nearly 200 bhp, and I believe the Hartge kit takes it over 200 :yikes:

Boot's smaller than a CC though. We considered one (a Cooper -- the S wasn't out then) but it actually seems to be less practical than a CC.

I think calling it a Mini is a violation of the trades description act. Its bigger than a bloody Ford Ka or a Corsa for instance. And the boot is tiny Its like a reverse TARDIS....smaller inside than it appears on the outside. But despite this I like 'em and considered one before the CC. Wouldn't get one now though to be honest.

Look at this before buying a MINI.

75% of MINI drivers who wrote in to carsurvey disagree with it's rave reviews in the motoring press. As a reference the CC gets reviews that are 50/50 and type R's (well ERM will be pleased!) Considering the MINI hasn’t got all the techno wizardry of a CC. You kind of wonder what went wrong at BMW. These are real people with real cars spending their hard-earned cash and they appear to be pretty disappointed with their new MINI's. My partner test drove a cooper and was unimpressed hence she brought a sh**troen
