No matter, that's just what I needed to know - thanks. I've got a replacement ECU and handed both it and the toasted one over to a specialist to do either a repair or a code swap. However I'm not holding out a lot of hope for success, so may just plump for a complete replacement set of BSI, ECU, comms unit and key fobs. That bit is still all up in the air.
The good news is that the place that I bought the ECU from also had a wing in exactly the right colour, and from the back of the warehouse, a very dusty bonnet too! So I had 'em. They were cleaned and fitted the same evening, and now (other than a couple of very small marks) the car looks pretty much pristine.
I've managed to get a windscreen, and as soon as the car is running I'll take it somewhere to get it fitted.

Nearly done...

Nope - same cat as the one on P2.
If you look carefully at the middle pic above, you can see his paws poking out!

I've had a setback. I couldn't understand why Peugeot Planet couldn't see my ECU (or any other new ECU for that matter). But when I tried an older one, it registered it and the fuel pump initialised, and control of the throttle butterfly was enabled too. However it wouldn't fire because the immobiliser codes didn't match.
Well, the upshot is: it seems as though the wiring loom that I was supplied was the wrong one. It came out of an 04 plate car, but there was a change to the CANBUS network between 04 and 06, and the 2 systems aren't compatible.
So I've got to find another 1.6 (at least as young as Capncol's) that's being broken, and plunder it for the wiring loom if I stand any chance of getting the car to work.
The good news is that hardly anybody ever wants wiring looms, so they should be cheap - well cheaper than a BSI, ECU and key set. The bad news is that breakers don't want to touch them because they're a pain to remove complete, and they don't want mere mortals to do either until pretty much the entire rest of the car has been stripped, by which time the loom has probably been damaged anyway.
So if anyone knows of a new CC 1.6 with a good front end which is being broken in the Midlands or S. Yorks, please give me a yell.

Neil. ;)

Bugger. That's not a 5 min job either.
Have to say I had my suspicions about that loom when you told us about the throttle plug.
Cheers Col.

I appreciate the heads-up, but I think that it needs to be at least a 55 plate. 05 may do, but I don't think any older than that would be any good for the loom. Having said that, I'll give them a yell and see how much they would want for the ECU, BSI and key fobs. Could get a bargain from a non-Pug specialist...

(Pic of the engine on the 1st page of the thread Capncol)
I wondered about that too Craig. I came to the conclusion that the salvage yard had replaced a few badly melted parts with bits that they had to hand, but then didn't have enough to finish the job.
The engine is common with a lot of Citroens - you find them in C2's, C3's and C4's.
It IS the original engine, and I've since changed the sticker on the engine cover for a Peugeot one.

He's got good eyes. Just looked like a plain white sticker to me (saw Pug sticker later on) That engine is the TU5JP4 Also used in Citroen Xsara and as you say C2/3/4 etc.

Very little.
The last month (particularly last week) has been immensely frustrating. It’s been very difficult to find any late model CC’s that are being broken anywhere nearby.
About 3 weeks ago through eBay I found a guy in Manchester who was breaking quite a few CC’s, including late model ones. He told me that he had an exact match for my ECU & BSI. Or he would let me remove a complete main loom (as long as I did it carefully) for £100 from an 07 plate that he had.
So I took a day off work, drove up to Manchester, and spent a morning getting the main loom out. While chatting about the project we came to the conclusion that I would need the engine loom too, so that cost me another £40, and a couple more hours to take out.

Eventually I jingled back home, happy with my day’s work, and then found to my horror that the new loom was exactly the same as the one that I’d already put in. The 07 plate car turned out to be a late-registered 04 model! The seller wasn’t interested in taking the parts back as he never normally sells looms on their own, and I had taken it at my own risk. But said he would do me a good deal on the ECU and BSI from the same car.
So I paid for them the weekend before last and waited for them to arrive. I was on holiday for the week so was looking forwards to completing the car. But nothing turned up. Every time I rang the seller’s number it just went to answer-phone. I ended up getting very frustrated and sending an “annoyed” message via eBay to say I’d tried ringing him lots of times, and wanted to know when I would either get my parts or my money back.
He replied to say he’d been in hospital and didn’t know where his phone was, but refunded me immediately. A relief, however it got me no further forwards with the car. It just left me stuck with another incompatible loom and £140 on top of the mounting repair cost. I looked into swapping wires around in the loom to get power to the ECU, but it was impossible.

The other alternative was to buy a written-off vehicle from Copart, strip off the bits that I needed, then sell the rest for spares or repair. There were 2 auctions that I had my eye on, both of which were ending last week – 1 car had been vandalised and had no wheels, keys (so unknown mileage), paint-stripper on every panel, and had been bashed up the bum! I thought it might fetch £225, so that’s what I set my maximum bid at, and it went for £450! The other was a nice gun-metal one which was a Cat C, but the only visible damage was to the front nearside wing. I thought that might go for £850, or maybe up to £1000 – it went for £1400! Mad prices and WAY above my budget.

Yesterday I finally had some luck – I won a blue Allure with very similar damage to Capncol’s recent black one. It has everything I need intact, and even a nice grey leather interior that I can swap before selling it. So I pick it up tomorrow and will be very busy over the weekend and the next few nights. Once the black one is working it will pressed into service ASAP so that we can sell Lisa’s Clio, then I’ll get the blue one driveable at my leisure before eBaying it.

...and after "very little" progress, things have suddenly gone back into "full-on" mode again - hooray! :D

Yesterday I managed to get out of work early, so I took advantage of the time, called past home for my trailer and took a blast up to Doncaster to haul the blue Allure back.

Thanks to monsoon conditions and tractors on the journey up, I was lucky to arrive (soaking wet) just 10 mins before Copart closed. But they were more than happy to take my money and it took them literally a couple of minutes to retrieve the car from their massive yard and dump it on my trailer. The journey home was mercifully uneventful, and when I got back I tried the key in my new purchase - it started first time! So I backed it down off the trailer under it's own steam, and then spent the rest of the evening making it look a little less of an eyesore.

The upshot is, now we have 2 x CC's in various states of disrepair cluttering up the neighbourhood - and with a following wind this could mean that the black one is running very soon.

I would attach a pic of the new one showing the worst of the damage, but the board is saying I've reached my attachment quota (I'm not sure how to find out what this is and where to adjust it).
