ok I will start again and tell you whats happening,if you lock the car with the key fob and leave it for a while and then when you try and unlock it with the fob, it wont unlock,so you have to do it manually and this sets off the alarm and only unlocks one door not both.when you try and start the car it turns over but wont start and the headlights and wipers come on on their own,so far to get it started you have to unlock both doors, disconnect battery (+) then turn on ignition then reconnect battery which seems to reset everything then car will start.now as an added bonus it has started to cut out intermittently,it just dies as your driving then you just restart with key.

Sounds like a battery or battery connection fault to me. Have you got the correct battery on it? It should be 190mm tall. Sometimes folk have been known to fit the incorrect 175mm tall battery which is intended for hatchback models. This puts strain on the terminals and can cause the symptoms you are experiencing. If this has happened in your case the solution is likely to be a brand new battery of the correct size and specification e.g Exide EA530 http://thebatteryshop.co.uk/exide-premi ... tAodoioAPQ
If you do require one then shop around like I did. I got one for around £60 including delivery.

turned out to be the battery

According to Halfords website that's a 175mm high battery.

Plus they are **expletive deleted** expensive!! :o

You can get the same for lot less ....

Check Halfords website as I did:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165762

states Dimensions (LxDxH): 242 x 175 x 168mm

But as long as yours is 190mm high that'll be ok.

Main thing is your car seems to be fine now.

You still didn't say how you were disconnecting battery.
Cheers Col.
