Look, it's only a laugh.

I mean, if you were totally convinced by what you were doing, you wouldn't take it personally.

BTW are you sure the block itself (even with uprated internals) will take 400bhp? Even a Honda NSX block is only good for around 500bhp. A Subaru Impreza block is about 400bhp. I can't imagine that a car that puts out 138bhp as standard has a block capable of taking the strain. Unless you're dropping a totally different engine in -- will a Rover V8 fit? I think an iron-block Chevy V8 is a bit too big

I'm only thinking of you. Even if you avoid the "sitting there stationary with the front wheels spinning" thing (that's only cool if it's the rear wheels leaving black lines down the road), you won't look too cool if it detonates the first time you give it some stick :(
In fact, you'll look even less cool than when I turn up at the petrol station in my sleek black TVR, then have to push it away from the pumps because it won't start (actually that hasn't happened, but I have pushed it into a petrol station with steam pouring out of the bonnet...)

I don't see the problem. It took me many years to save up the money to buy a TVR. The reality of the ownership experience is nothing like the dream (Will it overheat? What are those strange fluids leaking out of the engine bay?), but if people take the piss ("it's just a kit car", "has it broken down yet?") I'm not offended.

I guess the difference is that (unless it detonates) I can always sell the Trevor for most of what I paid for it. I don't suppose that applies to you :(

Of course you will sell it. Do you see yourself owning it in 30 years time? It will be the equivalent of a badly-modded MGB then.

Personally, I'm trying to get out of the "crap residuals" game, coz I've realized it's for mugs (or fantastically rich people).

PS: saw my first Bentley Continental GT today (£110k  ) in Dublin. But even that's not unique, because someone I work with saw two of them next to each other :rotfl:

OK, I'll see if I can get Lyndon to archive this page. Shall we have a tenner on it, payable in 30 years time (if I'm still here)?

Rules are: if it's scrapped, that counts as "selling it". If you crash it and total it, that means all bets are off. Not sure what to do if it's stolen, although I think it unlikely you'd have it stolen to order to win a tenner and to prove a point.

Why don't you just do what everyone else does and take a photo of it?

So you're not on for the tenner then?

OK, back to the original subject: as I posted above (I think I edited it after your reply) are you sure the block's up to it? Are you using the standard 2.0 production block, or do you have something "hotter" in there?

A Saturn V has less exhausts than that
Please tell me you're planning on four or less exhausts!

Serious question: when you're all done, do you want to go for a drag race (if I still have the TVR)? I was thinking a Santa Pod "Run What You Brung" day. We could go for best 1/4 mile, excluding reaction time (to make it fair). Would be interesting to see the results.

What about the second part? If you won, I'd be gracious in defeat. No "my throttle pots were playing up" or anything (apart from "I'm a shit driver who can't launch a RWD car properly").

There's a RWYB day on 23 May, or if that's too soon there's 10 July. There's a "peak performance" day on 4 June, too, but it's a Friday. I'd rather not take time off work in June as I'm hoping to take all of July and August off.
