Derek,
I was talking to my hubby about your problem, and he is puzzled as to why the engine needs replacing just because the arch guard was missing. He say’s…..

I assume the arch guard that was missing, is the LH side where the air intake is. Even so the engine should not ingest any dirt because of the air filter. If the air filter was missing then dirt would get into the engine causing damage to the valve guides & cylinders walls resulting in the engine burning oil. Does the engine burn oil?
Or does the engine loose oil i.e. puddles on the ground?
Something does not ring true here. :? I’m not familiar with this particular engine, however a defective gearbox seal does not justify an engine change. I’ll have a look under our cc’s bonnet when we get it back.
A colleague of mine goes rallying with a 2.0L 306 and all the unnecessary bits including arch guards etc have been stripped out to save weight or for access. So you can imagine the dirt that gets into the engine bay after ploughing through forest tracks & fields.

Ian.
thanks for your help......

altho the missing guard (which is the lhs one) could have contributed to this and it's the could have that is the problem. your point on the air filter stopping dirt is the exact same as what someone else said who has extensive knowledge of peugeots.

the biggest issue is the dealers part in this where they were aware it was missing, cleaned out the air system on 28th may and are now (or should i say stuart) is now denying that a part was ordered (the guard) or that they did this work on the car - basically he knows that if he admits it then he won't have a job.

as the work (and paperwork) was discussed with me by stuart then it would appear he has deleted all records relating from the system.

i'm sure he thinks he has been clever on THIS occasion.....

hmm people that try to cover themselves nearly always get caught out.

I wonder if there's paperwork elsewhere such as a request for a new wheelarch guard sent from the dealership to peugeot uk stockists etc.

  Bl**dy hell Derek, you don't have much luck do you! Actually, it's not down to luck, it's down to that sheisster at the dealership. What's their name again, just so we can all avoid them like the plague

Hope you get it sorted AND SOON!

Seems all dealers are the same though - Robbie with his Audi and my old man's beetle... if only everything was as reliable as a VW? Think again! Window wouldn't go up so took it to VW, they scratched the tint to buggery and now all we get it "oh the guy you're dealing with is on holiday" (and why can't you deal with it?) or "the parts on order" (when the blo**dy hell are they coming in) or "we need to make a cross claim because you came in on a day with the word "day" in it" blah blah blah

Better calm down now! Good luck - Pauline xx

that's the general idea :P

i'll need to see what dealer will give me a basic 206 + reasonable cash. tempted by a 307 Zest as they are going for £8995 but with insurance etc... it will eat into the cash for the 307CC

hia.for what its worth.
the gear box and the engine dont share the same oil  .old minis used to.
dont know the ins and outs of their decsion for engine change due to oil leak.if it were that bad im almost certain that your car would not be mobile.and if your car was still in warranty i would be snapping your hand off to change your engine under warranty.they have nothing to loose cause they will redeem there money for engine etc and all labour and diagnostics charges .its a all win situation, and i dont know many dealers that would turn down £5000 worth of work. :D .
bring it down to my wrxs ill have your warranty work and put my sales and fixes up at theend of the month.uuummmmmm big bonus for reap uummmmm

Yey, Faulty Towers, sounds like a cheap holiday to me Derek, hope you got some vacation left.

Btw I'll be down surfing in Cornwall in the next couple of weeks so if your down that way perhaps we'll arrange a meet.

PS. Don't mention the Germans.

Robbie. :D
