My car is booked to go into Peugeot next Monday to see which software it uses so that they know which cable to connect to the Clarion stereo to get this to work. So I'll let you know what they come up with, but apparently there is a cable that will connect the mp3 to the clarion which only costs about £15 plus half an hour labour.

I bought the Arkon fm transmitter but it only seems to work on a clear day!

that will probably be an FM modulator cable... you'll have to tune your stereo into a station and manually change the tracks on the iPod yourself....plus it won't charge it!!

the kit from denison fixes all this and the clarion head unit uses the iPod as a CD changer! - change the tracks from the stereo/remote/stalk, charge the ipod, sits in a dock and uses the line out rather than the headphone jack!!

a lot better!!

I don't have the IPOD I have the IRiver, not too fussed about charging as it has 16 hours battery life.

I only want to use the functionality of the speakers and drive the music from the mp3 itself. Also the gizmo you mentioned was very expensive. Cheaper to change the cd player and replace it with one with an mp3 input!

Thanks anyway, I'll let you know how good it is if I go for it. In the meantime I'm putting up with temperamentality of the Arkon wireless!

Don't know how you could say that.

IRiver is much better spec 40gb, supports more files types, has a radio, remote control, better looking, replaceable battery, upgradeable firmware - yes I did my homework before I invested and am thoroughly pleased with it and that I made the right choice. I'm sure the ipod does have some good points!

Anyway talking of poor man's ipod, how do you compare that in 206cc terms, poor man's SLK?

but it wants to be... even the name suggests a rip-off!!

the iPod is the market leader for a very obvious reason

IT'S THE BEST ONE YOU CAN BUY!!!!!!

cheap versions are rife but there is only one iPod.... it's like driving a ferrari kit car.... it's nice and turns a few heads, but in the end it only cost £15k and you know you have a pretend car!

feel the power of the iPod.. the original and still the best.

always imitated... never bettered.

You haven't convinced me. I suggest you compare the spec and the look and the guarantee etc.....

Anyway, I'm glad you're happy with it, but I'd rather have the extra spec, build quality, looks and the additional money in the bank!

Dom,

I feel your being a bit harsh on Donna.

The Ipod is the market leader but that doesnt mean it is the best does it.
The Iriver is a damn fine machine and deservadly so.

Its like having a fight over Vhs and Betamax isnt it.

Dom check this site out, you may change your mind about the Ipod after this. Your not always right mate ;)

Hi Everyone,

On the subject of Irivers and Ipods.

I am considering which of these two to buy, I was originally going to go for the Ipod, but was then attracted by the Iriver's ability to play WMA files and by its built in radio.

However the downside to the Iriver is that I cannot find a unit that lets you connect the Iriver to the stereo by the use of cables as opposed to one of those FM units, which I didn't really like.

Does anyone know of a system that I can use to connect an Iriver to an alpine headunit? Coz this would swing me towards the Iriver, Alpine do however have a unit that lets you connect an Ipod to their AI Net Head Units which lets you control the Ipod from the headunit.

Or on the other side, does anyone know if Ipods can be made in any way to play WMA format files? If I could get one to do this then i would not worry about it not having a radio.
206CC SE, Onyx Black, Pebble Grey Interior.

Standard, but i do have an alloy tax disc holder.
