I'll certainly put a few tanks of normal petrol staion fuel then, does unleaded 95 or 97 make a big difference to for the price?

More RON basically means your fuel generates more heat when burning so in theory, more power. To get the most of that heat the engine may need to adjust it's timing/tuning. The engine may do that on it's own. Subura do and there is a reset procedure to tell the car to re-learn the best timing for the current tank of fuel (quicker to reset then to let it learn the opposite of what it already has learnt). I know of no such option on the 206 so at best you'd have to run on the new fuel for several tanks. According to my earlier quote from a 206 site Super "works well for some".

Personally I didn't buy my CC for performance reasons so I'm happy on Premium. Cheers

Well having got a friend who owns a petrol station which is shell there are a few things to bear in mind about all petrol stations:

1. They will always have a percentage of water in the tanks, but this has to be kept below the legal maximum

2. The delivery drivers (no matter which company) will always eventually :censored: up and put the wrong fuel (i.e. diesel) in the wrong tank. However the petrol stations are rarely caught on this, because it is extremely hard to prove.

3. The fuel lorries carry different fuels in the same tank and some residual will always get mixed in

So basically saying that supermarkets are always worse than the brand names is simply not accurate

Also do you really think that you could tell the difference between standard unleaded fuels, I doubt it!!!

So .. what are we saying here ... I go to tesco whcih are supplied by Texaco ... but then I go to a Texeco garage and pay a few pence more per litre because of the location of the garage and its extra running costs and Im actually not really getting the same kind of petrol :?:
I wouldnt use Tesco OR Texaco! ;)

I think the differences are mainly felt by 'drivers' - and by that i do not simply mean the person actually driving the car! Even in my old E reg metro, i could tell when mum had decided to be 'nice' and fill it up with Tesco's own. I have now turned her over to optimax for her 206 hatch and even she agrees it is better.

I try to only ever put in shell or BP, but will do ESSO on a very rare occasion if i am low enough and too far away from a shell/BP garage. The other day en route to anfield i had to put something like Q8 ( :yuck: ) in, but i only did a fiver and then put some decent fuel in at the first opportunity! The girl at the Q8 seemed a little confused when i told her that i had been worried about running out, and even asked my why i hadnt put more fuel in if i was that low!

Well why not be a bit more scientific about it? Some of us fill up at tescos for a couple of tanks, then BP, then Sainsburys etc and I'm sure we'll get a result.

I've often wondered about it too - but they're all made to BS standards (or are those E numbers in new money?). I fill up at Tescos/Safeway and my idling is a bit lumpy ;)

Then we can have a poll :D

Or even a "fuel" board with half a dozen topics - one per manufacturer - then 4 options ranging from good/smooth running to bad/chugging like a learner and see what votes we get :D

Oh no been thinking too hard at work today :( Sorry, won't happen again :)

My $0.02

I used Tesco petrol for around two years in the Fiesta. I switched to Shell Optimax and within a couple of weeks I got a smoother engine, better economy and performance.

Now this may not necessarily mean that Optimax is the best petrol around, but it certainly means that Tesco isn't...

Well if we are going to be scientific about it we need to fill Erm's car with different brands and not tell him which one it is and then get him to vote. :) Then repeat for several other members! OK, so maybe a bit impractical! :)

I've gone to Tesco almost every time i've filled up and idle does seem very lumpy for a new car, so i will try the shell garage down the road and see if it gets better

now,i cant be arsed to get into a row,cos im off to spain in 7 hrs, mite not be coming bac at this rate but.....

I was a petroleum engineer for 7 yrs and ill tell u all,its all the same ruddy stuff.

All the tanks have up to 2" of water in the bottom

The time not to fill your car up is if they have just had a tanker drop, all the shite has been stirred up,rust and water(and on tanks ive worked on,my wee wee)

Was in BMW dealer a few weeks ago and some dumb bit came in with tears in her eyes, she was running low on juice and had to fill up at a asda, she wanted to know if she needed to have it drained from tank, the scary thing is how do people like this afford BMWs .

blimey,i need to get packing, ill return

ok im confused

macdonalds water down their coke? im shocked and disappointed that a site like this would start a rumour like that - have you not tasted the sweet nectar that you buy from macdonalds? can you not appreciate the fine fruity aroma, the subtle flavour, and the powerful aftertaste????

come on lads and lasses - dont slag of macdonalds and their coke - if ya wanna have a go at something then try one of their burgers!

get out and enjoy it!
