All reluctor rings are not equal

Post by JoeS »

It appears that while many reluctor rings are 90mm internal diameter, some are 85mm diameter.

A long chat with the nice man at a manufacturer suggested that there has been a migration both in after-market CV joints and factory-fitted diesel models towards the new size so you may need to measure the diameter of the CV unit no matter what!

I had a hunch my reluctor ring on the front near side was bud the other day as the ABS started kicking in at odd times when you wouldn't expect it. A quick inspection with the wheel off on Sunday shows that the reluctor ring has snapped and is rotating freely.

I am keen to give this repair a go but would just like to check, can anyone confirm if you can get it over the front or do you need to separate the CV joint?

Thanks
Ed

hello edmund

don't know whether you sorted your problem, but you can slide the ring over the cv without taking if off the drive shaft, just have too make sure you clean everything really well and remove rust

(not been on for a while due to family loss)

Sorry to hear about the loss.

In the end I replaced the CV joint. I just figured that a good reluctor ring is £30 or a cheap CV joint is £35. As CS joints need replacing from time to time I thought I'd just pre-empt it.
