Alarm system

Can someone advise me on how the alarm system is operated when the roof is down - there is a button next to the steering wheel but the manual I have is the standard 206 one and is doesn't explain how to operate the alarm system. Is there a microwave sensor function?

I have the feeling there is a button next to the roof operating button which disables it, if I remember correctly. I'm not 100% sure though as I never used it. When I left the car the roof went straight up to avoid bird poo/rain/foliage/vandalism.

The alarm system does not work when the roof is down, on the front pillars near the sun visor there is a sensor that looks like a small bump with a hole in it, that sends some type of beam to the back of the car, it does not work when the roof is down. (that's what it sounds like it should do from reading the manual)

I don't think its quite true to say the alarm system does not work when the roof is down. It is just that it needs to be set to "exterior protection only". It will then operate if someone tries to open the doors or bonnet etc. But will not be set off by air movements within the car interior. See my previous post above.

Thanks for the link to the manual - I've now printed off a copy and have had a read through. I originally thought there might have been a microwave sensor for when the roof is down, but not the case. Lets just hope we get a bit more nice weather -

Aparently when the roof is down, the sensors are automatically by passed. Thats my understanding of the manual. The button is if there is any problems with the system

Not on our car. We always have to use the button per the manual when remote locking with the roof down. Otherwise the alarm goes off within about 20 - 30 seconds.

With the roof down the movement sensors are automaticly disabled when locking with the remote, but the alarm is still active should someone try and open a door. The only time I press the button to disable the alarm is if the roof is up, but windows are down and I am not too far away. Thats what its like on my pre-multiplexed car anyway.

Just read the manual and that is exactly what it states on pages 122-123

The button does what should happen automatically when the roof is down, it disables the ultrasonic alarm but leaves the contacts doors, boot and bonnet active.

They say it's so you can leave pets in the car without their movement setting it off but unless you leave a window down a bit that's hardly an intelligent thing to do! You wouldn't set the alarm with a person in there as the doors would deadlock and they'd be trapped.

I suppose the only other circumstance you might use it would be if the sensors malfunctioned but it seems like a bit of a useless function if all is working as it should be!
