I have a 206 CC 2.0 that is now nearly 5 years old (had it from brand new). I had my brake pads and discs replaced back in Dec last year which was at about 58k by my local ATS as i had a few problems with my local Peugeot dealers in Aldridge a while back and had lost quite alot of trust in them.
I booked it in today for it's 60k service and they tell me that i need front discs and pads and rear pads as they are badly corroded???
Don't get it?? There is no way that they could have worn down in 3 months??!!! My brakes have really been screaming lately though?
On the GTI180 forum there are a few guys who have been told that they need pads but they know for a fact that they don't need them.
I think the pads and discs thing is a good way of making money from mugs you're right... good thing you picked up on it. Can you get someone to check for you? or maybe an independant garage?
The 206 pad is well known to screech from new so I wouldnt worry about that. Both my cc and 180 have made that fricking noise a few times! I've been told by my dealer that 50% of pads used on the 206 model range have the problem.

Why not take it back to ATS and show them the service report and see what they say?

I picked up the car this afternoon and took with me the receipt from ATS showing the Disc's & Pad's replacements and the guy at peugeot said that he would ask the 'Master Technician' in the morning to take a look at the disc's/pads that were taken off and give me a call to let me know if they were worn or if ATS had even replaced them!!
I have also asked for the discs/pads that they took off back so that i can go back to ATS if there is a problem???
What can you do?? Backed into a corner here?? Haven't got the knowledge or expertise to know which dealer/garage is trying to make a mug of me??
Will see what the reponse is from the dealer in the morning and keep you up to date..
Hi Aliy,
As you say 2,000 miles is an impossibly short mileage to wear out a set of brake pads. If your brakes were sticking on that much you would have known about it. Furthermore a brand new set of discs would not wear or corrode in just 3 months either. We just haven't had a bad winter this year so there has been hardly any salt on the roads to hasten corrosion. The dealer should have contacted you anyway before replacing discs and pads since although it is on the service schedule to check them, that sort of expenditure I would have wanted to be informed about before authorising it. You didn't give them "carte blanche" did you? I hope not.
Anyway, when they do come up with a badly corroded and worn set of discs and pads, how will you know that they are the ones that they took off your car? They will be replacing discs and pads all day and every day on other peoples cars!!!! Don't let them con you that way.
I really can't see ATS charging you for new discs and pads and not fitting them can you?
You have provided the evidence from ATS that the items had just been replaced. It will be impossible for your Peugeot dealer to dispute that. Sounds to me as if your dealer, who you've already had problems with before, you say, is not to be trusted at all.
Threaten them with a solicitor, and get one involved if you are not confident enough of standing up for your rights without help.
