Shall I purchase a 206cc

Hi All,

Currently drive a X Reg, black used Puma lux edition, with full leather, 17" alloys, etc and had nothing but problems with the thing & I've only owned it since Feb06.
So decided I can't stand no more

and need a new car!

I've been reading up on reviews this time before I part with my hard earnt cash and the majority of people I've come across seem to say they're nippy cars and great in the summer BUT they do have a lot of problems with them.
For example the roof & windows stick, engine cuts out etc!

Does anyone know, or has anyone had this happen to them?

Before my Puma I did own a Peugeot 206 and loved the thing, except it was a 1.1 and took me about a day to get from A - B!
Looking at a 2.0L of this bad boy so I've got the umph there!

My impression is that it would be wise of me to get the car from new so that it has the full 3yrs warranty incase something does go wrong as don't want to be shedding out stupid amounts of money again but they are quite expsensive from new compared to one I've seen on a 02 plate with decent mileage for about Â£9K.

Please give me honest advice, good or bad! All is appreciated!

Know how you feel.

Currently been looking at getting another car myself, but unsure if itâ€™s the right thing to do. What with BS'ing sales people, so many jealous twatts and crapp drivers on the road I just donâ€™t think itâ€™s worth it. Iâ€™m becoming a very bored person watching my savings account and not having anything to show for it. Anyway this is my experience of 206cc ownership:

We have owned our CC for nearly six years 30K miles. In that time I have had little go wrong with it. The driver side window had to be replaced under warranty due to the side impact bar fouling the glass. I had this done just before the 3 years were up on the warranty and I would say for the first 4.5 years (25K miles) nothing went wrong with the car. Then I had to get a new section of exhaust, which cost Â£300 18 months ago and had the lower ball joint replaced on my front suspension for about Â£100. I have just changed the front discs and all pads after 27K as this was advised by the MOT inspector for next year, but donâ€™t think it was necessary. And itâ€™s just had its 3rd set of tyres fitted. I also left my lights on and had to change the battery this year. Apart from the exhaust all the parts were reasonably priced. I do most the servicing work myself as I donâ€™t trust Peugeot or garages in general.

Is the 206cc reliable? Well it depends on what you mean by unreliable. The only issue I had with my cc, which I felt was substandard, was the exhaust. Other than that the F1 tyres last about 17K and the ball joint issue was most probably due to my car being lowered. The car is not as water tight as some hatchbacks, but very good compared to most convertibles. I might get a drip come down the inside window if I direct the pressure washer at the join between window and roof. The brakes are said to be squeeky. I have never found this, but I did start to get a rattle from the front callipers until I changed my pads.

There is a lot to go wrong on a 206 cc, but I would say from my experience that it has been a good fun car to run and, although you might get people on a forum telling you of their nightmares. Most people I have met in person who have owned cc's have been more than happy. I think forums in general attract people who are looking to vent their anger about a product rather than to praise it.

IMO, (although this contradicts most of what you will read). I believe that the very first batch of CC's are better built. I would say cars built up until July 01 were pretty solid, but after this date the demand for the car rose so much I believe Peugeot started to let the build quality slip just to keep up with the demand. Things start to look ok again on cars built after 2003. I would try and get the lowest mileage one owner car you can afford if I were you and avoid 51-03 plates.

Whatâ€™s been the problem with your Puma? I believe the 2.0l CC has similar performance to the 1.7 puma, although I remember someone who had changed from a puma to a cc saying that the pumas handling was slightly better

I wouldn't want one without a warranty due to the problems that I had with my two so if that meant buying brand new then I would be looking for a very good discount taking into account that the 207 is out now with the 207CC on the horizon.

If you could wait, then I would hang around until the 207CC comes out. If you want a car now, I would consider the 206CC but also take a look at the competition as the 206CC is starting to show it's age although it's still a great car to look at.

I've had no problems with mine, but I like having the warranty at the back of my mind just in case. This is my 3rd 206 in a row and really enjoy it

I read last night that the 207CC is due out Summer 2007 - I would take that over a 206CC if you are able to wait.

I'm not sure of the 207cc. It doesnâ€™t look like it will offer anything more than the 206cc.
The top model has 150BHP, but the same engine in the hatchback 207 isnâ€™t any faster than, or as quick as, the old 138bhp gti hatchback so I doubt a TOTR 207cc will be as good to drive as a 206cc. I guess we will have to see.

I would think there are some good deals to be had this time of year. Try Broadspeed.co.uk. But with the 207cc on its way I would think its going to make 206CCs depreciate a bit.
