transponder key fault?

got in the car to start it yesterday....door opens, lights, stereo etc all ok....no starting just does nothing

so we call the AA man and he asks if i dropped the keys...no was the answer....anyway we try the other set and the car works fine

he said its a key transponder problem...whats this? how do i fix it?

its a 2002 1.6 if that makes any difference and out of warranty

Sounds to me like the immobiliser is not disarming when you put the key in the ignition. There is a reset procedure which i'm sure someone will know off the top of their head (probably Reap) which may work.

The instructions are in the owners manual.

But I think it was something like:
Put in the key, turn one notch, press the lock button on the key and it's done.

Check on the manual if you have it handy...

or check the downloads section on the left hand side as there's a PDF version, is a little old but should still be useful

putting the key in and pushing the plip button wont help.this only learns the radio part for the central locking(key resync)
sounds as though you have a physical problem with the micro chip in your key?.
if you put it in the ignition and open the door .does i bleep bleep to warn that you left your key in the ignition??.

given the ecu part number and type i may well be able to disable the imobiliser all together

problem is it imobiliser goes through bsi before it unlocks the engine man ecu.
so you would have to decode bsi also.

i cant think for the life of me what system type it is but i have just decoded a citroen xsara 2002 with no problem i ve never been asked about bsi please educate / remind me
