The string thingy's come off!!!

You know that bit of string, rather like a bathroom pull cord, thats in the boot. The one whose job it is to enable you to sort the roof manally, if necessary...............

Well the strings broken, and its dropped off. It needs restringing.

I intended to take it along to a peugeot garage for a 'quote' - but hubby thinks he can do it himself with a bit of string. I'm not so sure.....


Has anyone had their string renewed, and at what cost? Has anyone sorted it themselves? Is it easy?

Thanks Lyndon, but I already have the clip saved to my hard drive, and am familiar with it. Very useful. It doesn't, however, say how vital that bit of string is, nor how much it is to replace, or how difficult it may be. In my experience, it depends largely if the item was designed by a woman or by a man. If it was designed by a man, then its possible that the engine will have to be completely stripped out before you can get the the end where the string should go.

LOL - only joking, of course - though there is an element of sarcasm, i'll admit - mostly due to being told that to change one light bulb behind the facia in my tigra, [75pbulb] would entail completely stripping down the dashboard, dismantling, and several hours work - at a very expensive hourly rate! Needless to say, the bulb stayed 'out'. Now - if i'd designed it, i'd have made the bulbs very easily accessible, since bulb failure is something that I assume would be fairly common.

likewise with headlights.

anyhow - sorry - i digress............................. I have yet to find the time to visit peugeot, who are a few miles away from me. When I do, I'll report back on how i got on.

You apparently teach children with ASD. I have an autistic son and have been involved with NoRSACA (Notts) since the early 80's.

I think the lamps in the Tigra are the same as in the Corsa. They tend to fail because they are on all the time when the ignition is on if I remember rightly. Probably was designed by a man but they take a few minutes to change not a few hours, but the job is fiddly. One of mine is out at present but I will wait until another goes until I do the job. Sod's law working for me: if I replace the one that's gone now, another will go next week. If I wait for another to go before I replace it, the next will take years to fail.

GrandadMonkey - thanks for that link - my hubby had said that he'd have a go at putting a new cord on, but I was a bit reluctant to let him loose on my lovely car.

Yes, I teach children on the AS - at a school for Moderate learning difficulties. Our school caters for pupils who are accademically 4 years or so behind their peers - regardless of specific nature of their problem. So some are ASD, some are prader willi, some ADHD [now considered part of ASD] and some are just slow learners. Added to this are the specific difficulties by nature of the ASD - most notably poor social skills.

I had no experience with ASD prior to coming to this school - I only knew what I'd seen in the media. These kids continue to impress me with their determination and grit - and their individualism. I fell in love with the school, and its pupils, the first day I was here. They gave me back my self belief, and in doing that, saved my career, for I was about to quit teaching. I wouldn't want to teach anywhere else! Ever!

Anyhow - thanks again for that link. I'll show it to hubs and see if we can have a go.

Well, I finally got round to taking it to the local Peugeot dealer and its a huge THUMBS UP and a big thankyou to the staff there who replaced the string and didn't charge me for it. Wow! That's service for you.

And because they were so fab, its only fair that I name them. The branch address is:
