Had you moved it a very short distance the previous time you started it? Mine has done this twice, most recently this week. I started it up and moved it about 20 feet the next time I started it up it ran like a sack of spanners, couldn't hold revs, hesitated and was horrible to drive.
If the light is blinking it's saying there is a fault there now, if it's permanantly on when the engine is running it's stored a fault code. Mine vanished after I left the car overnight and it is running fine so I am not worried, if it continued to blink at me then I would have it checked out. There have been a lot of users have this problem and the normal diagnosis is unknown fault code on cylinder 4 if memory serves me correctly. Haven't known it ever be a big problem for anyone - or I haven't read a posting from anyone where it has been a problem.
