Hi, I wondered if anyone can help me. When I go over a speed bump (not too fast)!, I get a beeping noise (like when the fuel is low etc). There is no message on the display and this has happened a few times. Please don't tell me its an electrical fault! My warranty ran out today. Has anyone else had this problem? :( [/b]

Hmmm! That one's made me think. Can't say I've come across it before but I seem to remember there's a sensor to check that the bonnet is closed firmly on 206's. I wonder if your bonnet is not closing tightly enough against the sensor switch so that when you go over a bump any movement in the bonnet is sufficient to operate the switch (as if the bonnet was open). The warning beep would then sound. Then when the car has settled down on the level, and the bonnet is firmly down again against the sensor switch, the warning beep would stop again. I'm only guessing at this stage.

Try opening the bonnet and instead of closing it firmly just close it on the hook. If you then drive it and get the same sound I think you'll have found your problem. If it is that then it is likely to be just a matter of a small adjustment to the switch placement to cure it. Shouldn't cost anything if it is that. Sort of job I would do myself.

Let me know how you get on, and don't forget to close your bonnet firmly again once you have tried it.

Is it the same bleep as the one you get when you release the roof latches?

If so then:

It could be that the latches are flipping down just far enough for the sensor in the latch to sense that it is being released when it isn’t.

Anyway if this is the case you may want to get the latches tightened. Moving forward the retainer latches that are mounted to the windscreen does this. The internal trim has to be released around the window and you will need some torque drivers to loosen the mounting screws. Don’t move it too much as you may cause too much stress on the roof hooks. A wee tip: Before unscrewwing the retainer latches scrib/mark around them so you know the original position and move them foward a mm at a time and check the latches are not difficult to close.

Mmm, thats got me thinking! Thanks for the advice - I shall try those. Its more of a "beep" that you get when the fuel is low (yes, I have let my fuel run low before)! :)

Julee, If your fuel is fairly low when you go over the speed bumps I suppose it could slosh from one end of the tank to the other and cause the gauge to read low momentarily - hence a beeping to indicate low fuel. Then when the fuel level stabilizes again on level ground the beeping will disappear as the fuel gauge float returns to a higher position. There will be baffles in the tank to reduce sloshing but the lower the level of fuel in the tank the greater the possibility of beeping.

Try running around with the tank nearly full. and fill up again when the gauge gets down to 1/2. If the beeping noise disappears for good chances are that's what it was.

Thanks for the advice - I shall try that. I think it may be low fuel. (der, blonde moment again - I'm not really thick)!

Hi Julee, I'm sure you're not thick at all.

I've been thinking about the post by lastvts, which was a good suggestion. However, before you go adjusting the roof, there may be a way of eliminating that possible cause without getting the tools out.

If you put the roof down, then drive over the dreaded speed bumps, if the beeping noise sounds you'll know that it isn't the roof sensors that are causing the beeping.

Let us know how you get on, hopefully after filling up with fuel first to eliminate the low fuel beep!

Good luck.

Hi, I've filled up fuel tank and it did it again!! I also noticed that the display changed for a second at the same time as the beep! I will try the roof thing when it warms up enough to put the roof down. Thanks for info. :)

Good, well done. One down, two more possibilities to try! Bonnet and roof.

Good luck! Can't wait for the next instalment.

The display was on the cd playing one, and as I went over a bump, it went over to the other display that shows date & time etc.
I have checked my bonnet and roof now, so I have ruled those out too! Im baffled - hope its not an expensive trip to the dealers!!!

Yes, it does it most of the time when I go over a hole in the road or over a speed bump! :(

Well, I've finally got round to booking my car in at the dealers (going to a different one recommended by a friend). :)

As soon as I mentioned the problem about the noise on going over a bump, the gentleman said, "Ah - it sounds like a microswitch"! Great. does anyone know how much these cost?
They are going to put it on a computer for me next Tuesday to determine which microswitch it is thats faulty.

Also today, I couldn't open the roof or the windows so sat in car baking & losing my temper until it decided to work properly & the windows & roof went down!! :x

Any info on the cost of these things would be very much appreciated!!

microswitch should only cost a pound or 2

is your car still under warranty ?

if not it'll be around £60 just to hook it up to the computer then about £50 per hour while they fix the problem :?

the above is only a very rough guess/stab in the dark
