hello guys.. i've been lurkgin for a while and thoguht this would be a good post to pop my cherry. Just had my copy of AutoExpress land on my door mat today, with the driver power supplement thingy. Guess which car was voted 99th out of 100 only the 206 .Whcih i think is a bit lame, esp when you see whats ahead of it (well nearly every other car on the road, bar the fiat Punto), the Micra had the dubious honour of "worst performance" but how much of a shock is that. The S2000 won overall, with the Boxster winning "best handling" and came in 33rd. Nice to see the skoda Octavia come in 2nd. I really rate them, esp the vrs, stick a chip on it and you have a great q-car.

The 206 never does well which I don't understand.... well maybe I do.
My first 206 was 1 .4LX, had it for 19 months and 31k miles and it was relatively trouble free.
That lead me to the 206CC which was rejected after 79 days. The next one had many problems ending with a knackered £3k engine.
The biggest thing that brings Peugeot down is their dealers which reflects in their overall scoring.
I take it the 206 is closely followed by the 307 ? Won't see the report until later as mines still get's delivered to my dads - left home nearly 6 years ago but never changed the subscription address

Hi, you posted this on civictype-r didnt you
and also said that you didn't understand why people buy them!!!
Had a couple of 206's and they have both been great... customer service is even better
2nd best selling car model in the UK cant be too bad
The bad reports are because of the bad dealerships.

Who buys Auto express?
Who supply cars to Auto express Journalists?
For an unbiased opinion read EVO. I have read almost every report on the 206cc and by far, for me EVO gave the most honest report and for that I will only ever purchase said car magazine, becuase I know it will give an honest appraisal of a driven car.
My mother owns a VTEC Civic. I live in Civic birth land. Please do not get me started on Civics.

I tend to agree with you, but EVO is no longer an independent magazine -- it's owned by Dennis Publishing who also own, you guessed it, Auto Express...Who buys Auto express?

So in answer to "Who supplies cars to Auto Express journalists?" I guess it's the same people who supply them to EVO

I think I read somewhere that Peugeot have made 5.4 million 206s and they're made in 6 or so factories around the world including Iran. They've made nearly a million 206CCs.
So if they're so crap they wouldn't have made so many....
By the law of averages even if they had just 0.1% of unhappy owners that's still a lot more unhappy owners than Honda S2000 owners in total!
And the unhappy owners are likely to write in and complain....
I don't think anyone really takes much notice of these surveys; anyone thinking of buying a 206CC will ask another owner, and usually, like me, they've had no problems and the Dealer has been brilliant.

I liked the EVO review because they didn’t blah on about personal things such as styling (One picture can tell that story) and concentrated on driver appeal, something that is a bit of an unknown when buying a new car unless you have the time and patience to test drive all conceivable cars and deal with poxy sales people. They compared the CC with the MG TF and the Toyota MR2. It basically said that the power was there, but it lacked in the handling department and so was left marginally behind the others on back roads. I can agree with that as the other two have mid engines. It didn’t come top of the test, but the cars it was up against made sense. To me the CC is a two seater with the option of seating 4 legally. A 2 seater that you can go camping in and Shopping in, Some of the stuff that I transported in my CC you would need a large hatchback to carry. The CC isn’t an out and out sports car, but IMO it has an unrivalled mix of practicality, security, driver appeal and economy.
From the other cars I have owned and driven, apart from a few discrepancies, I have found myself agreeing with most of the stuff EVO writes. Some other magazines seem well off the mark in there appraisals. The latest EVO wants to see the 206 GTI and 307CC 6 feet under. But wants the return of the 205 GTI. I can go along with that.
The 206 is coming up for a decade old. Of course newer cars are going to have had to up there game and will need to have improved upon the 206. The 206 gave us a big jump in quality when it came out. Peugeot just missed the point as far as the GTI’s were concerned. French car manufacturers are normally good at making great small sporty hatchbacks, because they understand that its better to have a car that is lighter than a car that is heavier with the same BHP per Ton. The bigger car will look better on paper, but the lighter car will be more agile. Why was there never a 206 rally?
Surveys are all well and good, but they don’t tell the whole story. Hondas for instance are simple cars and have little in the way of equipment to go wrong. They do a job, but dispassionately. A 206cc has so many components to fail it is frightening, but on the hole they last pretty well. I guess the moral is if you want to get from A-B and enjoy the ride get a fun car like a cc. If you want to get from A-B without the possibility of a fault catch a Bus or buy a Honda.
