Hey Y'all,
Currently owning 206 xsi, which i love! but am considering going for the gti 180 as my birthday is soon, Meaning insurance isn't too ridiculous.

I have a 206cc 1.6 and the performance is good enough as it is a convertible after all and not for blasting around in!! the 2.0 should really be the perfect combination
In the performance stakes you cant compare the two... the 180 is clearly much quicker
Its actually two seconds quicker to 60 which isnt a good indication of overall performance anyway (the quarter mile is). Im getting my 180 at the end of the month so i'll let you know how i get on

the 180 isn't gonna set the world alight...it doesn't feel that much quicker than the 138bhp gti. The 2 litre cc also feels quick but is heavier (so loses a second 0-60 from the hatchback 2 litre)...but the top comes off which is always a bonus.
depends what you're after really, hatchback or convertible...neither is exactly a 'performance' car as there are quicker cars out there for the money (clio cup or 192, etc)

I test drove a 180 when it came out. It didnt feel any quicker that my 2.0 cc. It did feel a lot taughter and handled better than a standard cc. I had a bit of a race with one earlier this year and there was nothing in it. You courld argue that the other driver was not realy trying, but I know who had the most fun. Roof down sun out! CC every time

Managed to test drive both today, you can definetely feel the extra power in the 180. Especially since it was a demo car, i treated it like an absolute whore and it was excellent.
2.0 cc was awesome, didnt manage to get the top down though
waiting for Dans feedback on the 180 insurance runs out on the xsi Feb 11th- so that will be judgement day.
Fladaap!

Even if a 180 did make just 175 bhp would you notice the 5 bhp missing? Err no.
As for the 180 not feeling any faster there may be a reason for that. Like in any tuning of an engine you rarely add much more torque and it is that which makes a car feel faster. So on a brief drive the cars won't feel much difference.
If you find a road suitable for a few trips to the limiter in each gear that is when the higher power will be noticed. Until you do that, one 2 litre hatch with the region 140lb ft torque will feel similar to another car with similar torque.
