Hi

The joint running into the back box from the mid-section of my exhaust has rotted and I've been quoted £500 for an entire new exhaust.

I note from other messages on this forum that you might be able to get a piece (as the flange's quality is notorious) to replace it. Any ideas where from?

I don't fancy trying to piece it up with a GTI mid section.

Ahh yes 4+ years of ownership and not a fault then on the first day (Friday) of the British GP I go to fill up my car and then start to hear my car is sounding unusually throaty. Go to pick up me father to take him to the GP and between the garage and his house my end silencer starts to fall off. When it goes it goes very quickly and with no warning signs.

This was 8 in the morning and so we went straight to Bells exhausts in Swindon and they quoted 275 for a welded-in mid silencer replacement and 375 for mid and end silencer. I have subsequently read stuff on this forum and I am not so sure it was a good price. But credit where credit is due. We sat there whilst they done the work. It took 1 hour to get a GTI exhaust delivered and then a further hour and a 1/2 to cut it to pieced and weld it all together. I have a GT rear bumper and they welded a nice shiny extra length to the exhaust outlet so it would look nice from the back. . I am not sure how true this is, but after they had fitted it the technician told me that they are the only garages in the area that will fit exhausts on CC’s and asked me if I was sent there from another garage. He also said that some garages try to fit standard unmodified GTI exhausts, but they just end up knocking everywhere.

I am always quick to criticise garages, but we sat there in our deck chairs and watched them whilst they done a very thorough job. We left there and got to Silverstone just in time to see the 2nd practice. A very expensive weekend though. I had to buy the exhaust, I had previously paid for the tickets for my dad and me for 3 days at Silverstone and then when I get home I find my bloody fridge freezer has packed up. Could be worse!

I believe you can get stainless steel exhaust for the price I paid, but beware from what I understand. When you weld stainless you loose the rust prevention properties at the join and thus they tend to rust at said points.

If I had time to think about it I would have tried to get the ball and cone join cut out and had that replaced with a different type of linkage to the end silencer. As this seems to be such a vulnerably area I wonder if the end silencer could not be cut at the join and just welded straight through.

I am just going to look at a 206 GTI website to see if the standard 206 GTI has similar problems and how they sort there exhausts out.

Do a search on Timax exhausts. replacement mid section for single lambda car is dirt cheap. Then pay somebody to adapt it to fit.
You either pay less that £100 and get it modified or pay hundred of £££'s and get an original Peuegot section...
Answer is obvious to me.
It's not rocket science to adapt it either. Anybody that says it cant be done is just being lazy.

Sorry to tag onto this post but can anyone help with the exhaust for a 1.6 model cc?

I think my exhaust is going and need to get a replacement?

Has anyone tried Kwik Fit?

Exhaust is gone now with it being very loud when driving. Had a look under the car and there is a lot of rest it appears to the front of the pipe just before the engine bay.

Have booked the car in at the local powerflow dealer in Newcastle. Hope it doesn't cost too much for a repair as I've got a looming house purchase! :(
