I have a squeak that sounds like its coming from behind the dash where the radio is or between the radio and steering wheel. Every bump, every crack in the road it's "squeak squeak squeak".

If I push up on the steering wheel the squeak completely disappears until I ease off on the wheel then it comes back.

I've lubed everything I can see with silicone gell. The rubber housing at base of steering wheel, the plastic housing around the steering column, I've removed the polystyrene from the steering column but it still squeaks and only stops when I push up on the wheel.

Its obviously something to do with the wheel / column / dash which is why it goes away when I push up on the wheel.

ANYONE ELSE GOT THIS / HEARD OF THIS? What can I do (apart from remove the dash to find out where its coming from).

I've learned so much from this forum, a £5 tube of silicone has made me squeak free and water tight? - apart from this god damn squeak!!!

Not had this on my 206 (no idea why I have had every other prob) but on Vauxhall Astras this happens all the time. On them its the "squib" its a rotating contact that lets current flow to the electrics on the steering wheel while allowing it to rotate freely, and not use wires that could fatigue.
Unfortunatly its replace only on the Astra as once the surfaces have become pitted/worn they cannot be repaired.
Not sure if this is the same problem as you have here but it sounds similar.

Thanks for that, I'll take a look. The "squeak" sounds like its coming from 12 inches or so behind the steering wheel and I'm not sure how far back the "squib" is. The fact that pressing up on the wheel stops the squeak does suggest it is something similar to what you've mentioned.

Having just driven home it still sounds like it's comming from the left of the wheel (closer to the radio / gear stick console). Doesn't the main steel support strut that the wheel connects to run all the way along inside the dash?

Anyway, all suggestions GRATEFULLY RECEIVED :D and I will investigate every single one of them KEEP THEM COMING PLEASE...

I seem to have a similar problem, only with mine, it seems to be from the passenger side (RHD). Same, as in if I push against the dashboard, it goes. Sounds like it's between the dash and screen and only there when the roof's down. Really annoying going over bumps.

Hi,

I've had this same also! It' was very loud!

Just pushed on places on the sourround and around the radio and air con controls did the trick.

No Idea what it was. Just guessing that it was a wiring loom that was twacking about. :?

Not sure, but I think mine may only happen when it's cold with the roof down, as since the sun's shining, the squeak has gone (well there now and again, but nowhere near as bad). So I think it's something to do with the plastics being cold. Anyway, shouldn't be posing in the winter with the roof off really. Don't know if others are finding the same,

Ive only had my cc for a week, so not noticing too much yet, but I do get the dashboard squeak. After pushing and poking various places, ive narrowed it down to the transparent plastic window of the dial housing. If I give it a slight push, it seems to correct itself.
