if you got the auto its not unsual, not just peugeot, other euro car seem to be similar. Its something to do with their "adaptive gear box" which suppose to adapt to your driving style but if you have an agressive driving style it seem not to down shift fast enough, to solve it - use to "S"port mode when driving (or pull down to "3 or 2" when turn corner or slow down qiuckly). If you notice already tap down on the accelerator paddle to control down shift. Most annoying when you turn corner, by the time it move down a gear you out of the corner already and the car take off on the straight at which you have to slow down or you will slam into the front car.

god u can really feel the bloody gear box change.......is there anything peugeot can about it?
Yep got to agree, this was my first manual in a while and the gear change is reasonably precise but has a lot of play in it. I drove a friends Seat Ibiza and the gearbox in that is really precise and feels more like an electronic switch rather than a gear-linked system!
Not sure if the Griffiths 206 Quick Shift would make things better or worse but once my 2 year service is done in a couple of weeks I might get one fitted to see. Anyone else got one?

I too was appalled at the distance between shifts when I first got my car. Doesn't quite fit the sporty image, does it ? The only other time I've seen a gear shift travel anything like that distance was on a government bus !
I got the Griffiths QS. Very worthwhile ! Mine's on the middle setting (pre-set), been lately thinking of dropping it down to the shortest setting, but been wondering if this will make changing gears harder, ie: do you need the leverage to change gears.
Slimgym, I wouldn't wait for the warranty to run out. I'm sure you'll have no probs with it. The only way I can see a problem arising is if you really slam the gears through hard. But then, that's hardly the QS's fault is it (even though Peugeot might say that it was) ? But the reality is that the same problem would arise even if you didn't have the QS.

"does it mean japanses cars are better and smoother to ride" - not really, once you use to the car's gear changing point (at which speed and how far down to press the paddle to cause it to shift up or down) you will find that you will have greater control over the cars.i think u r right.......does it mean japanses cars are better and smoother to ride? maybe even better built? god u can really feel the bloody gear box change.......is there anything peugeot can about it? if only toyotas and hondas made cool cars..........damn
"if only toyotas and hondas made cool cars" - yeah ! have you seen them, my god - look like they are design by 5 year old. They all claim to have "european styling" hmmm do they really think people buy japanese car because of the "european styling"? what the heck id european styling anyway? its only make japanese car uglier. BUT in the ugliest car award one european company still take the cup.... the renault "big bum" megane... my god i actually saw people driving arround with it... hope it no one here

I was going to wait until after the 2 year service which is due this month, do it then, the warranty has another year to run. It's just I can see them blaming anything and everything on stuff like this so I didn't want to take the chance. I even take the automatic roof box out when I take it in too, don't leave it to chance to deactivate it..

I wouldn't expect any issues until there's something wrong and I'm quite willing to accept a failure on any part of the car that I may have meddled with. Just if I take the car in to have the gas struts replaced they could blame the Conmatic for causing it, something like that, it's like insurance companies squirming out of paying because you put alloy wheels or a chrome exhaust end on ...Probably silly of me, but I leave all both the QS and the Conmatic in when having a service. So far, no probs.

Well, so far I've been very happy with the car, the dealer and the service department.
However, we've all seen and read plenty on this forum and elsewhere re: dealers who fail to stand behind the products they sell.
Time will tell. Anybody from Pug Australia on this forum may as well take note that I will go absolutely ballistic if they fail to honour a warranty claim. Honda Australia and Suzuki Australia have crossed my path before - and they both have scars to prove it.
