I'm sure I posted this yesterday, but I can't see it so here goes again.

Wednesday night I driving over to a friends (wih the roof down), went over a few bumps and the car started beeping at me. When I stopped it stopped.

I tried to put the roof up it just beeped some more.

When I got to my friends I tried to put the roof up manually. I didn't have the manual with me cos I'd been reading some of it at home, so we downloaded the one off this site and went though the routine. We couldn't release the parcel shelf there was no cord to pull. :-(

I nipped 'round to the garage and one of their guys looked at it put the roof up manually, commented that the pull cords always fall off. He cleared the fault using the good ole tried and tested remove the battery method as the disgnostic system wouldn't let him clear the fault.

Miracle of miracles the roof now worked fine. Yippeee.:-)
So I put it down cos the weather was great and on my way back to Smallfield (Where's Superman when you need him?) I ended up following another '04 moonstone A convoy!! The roof started beeping again!!. :-(

Me and my mate couldn't figure out how to realease the parcel shelf.
Bear in mind that we are both supposedly clever research engineers it can't be that hard.;-)

I went back to the garage Thursday morning a mechanic put the roof up and showed me how to release the parcel shelf with his fingers.

The car is now booked in for Monday. They are going to collect it from work as they have no courtesy cars.

Both mechanics were really helpful and I'm quite pleased with the attitude of the garage (Sidlow) with one priviso niether mechanic noticed that the release mechanism for the parcel shelf has changed and you should use the allen key as a lever.

I think we need to get the new manual on the website. Anyone with a new car got a scanner?

Just a note to someone reading and thinking of buying a cc, I still love my car.

J.

This sounds familiar. I have had 7 little cord things refitted. Every other week for ages when I first got my CC. I would use the hood and the cord would fall off.

My car has the same problem and is going into the dealer on monday
The manual on my 53 plate CC says to but the alan key into the hole on the left hand side of the boot, i did try this for some time when same proplem started the manual seem to show you that you have to turn it left.
I got so feed up with it that i called the RAC out and the guy and i went through the manual together and it turns out that you place the alan key into the hole and push DOWN. Now looking at the manual this is clear when you know what your doing, but its not clear when your doing the manual roof up for the first time.
There is no pull cord on my CC as shown on the MPEG of this site, now i dont know if the cord is not fitted to new CC, maybe someone out there will know

Hope all goes well with the car please post what they did as i will
Do you find that it happens when you have someone in the other seat?

The cord snapped on me in August last year and it took the dealer until last week to get a replacement "part" - previously the cord look like the white cord you typically have in bathrooms to activate electric showers, whereas the replacement looks like a normal black shoelace!

Ah well, it's warm now you see, so the dealer is probably wearing sandals- hence your 'part' arrived! :rotfl:
Just because you're paranoid, it don't mean they're not after you.

I'll be interested to see what they say. Maybe we can compare notes over a beer. Whereabouts in London are you? I live near JN8 M25.

I couldn't be bothered to wait for the RAC. I got that about pushing down from the manual when I managed to get back to my real one rather than reading the slightly older one hosted on this site.
Now looking at the manual this is clear when you know what your doing, but its not clear when your doing the manual roof up for the first time.
Isn't that so with everything in life? It doesn't help when you're panicking cos your pride and joy is sick.

I don't think it is, otherwise they wouldn't suggest using the allen key. Did you know that allen key also undoes the screw holding the plastic strip that goes left to right from the (now not fitted) pull cord? We discovered this as we were trying to put our fingers around the back of the mechanism to release it. Maybe it is the French version of the swiss army knife ;-)
Hope all goes well with the car please post what they did as i will

Nope. I was on my own. Did a passenger make a difference for you?

I've got my 'fixed' car back. The only thing they could find wrong was that the pressure relief valve for the hydraulics wasn't tight enough, but both myself & the second mechanic checked this.

The guy who delivered my car back drove back with the roof down and no beeping. He also demonstrated the operation to the roof to me serveral times and I've been playing with it this evening and it's been fine.

I do hate self fixing problems because they always come back and bite you in the bum.

They also cleaned the car and blackend the tyres :D

That's exactly the sort of thing I expected to be told. I was looking at the microswitch on the blind over the weekend. It's the cheapest crappiest microswitch that I've ever seen.

My roof still seems to be ok. :D
