Has anyone had to buy a new exhaust. I reversed into someone just before Christmas and have damaged the car more than I thought  I need a new back and middle box. I have been quoted £160 by kwik fir, is this a good price

Could use some advice

Sounds like a prime opportunity to get something stainless on there, IMHO.

Have alook on here.

Do you really need a new mid section and back box? I can see why the mid section can be damaged (the connection between the 2 parts is weaker) but i cant see how the back boz could be damaged...

The mid section wont fit straight on. You will need to pay somebody £25 to cut a 3 inch section and weld the end back on where it joins near the cat.

Has anyone actually had to buy a new exhaust, i could really do with some advise. The kwik fit & the dealer have told me i need to place the whole exhaust even though its the middle and back box, that means the cat too £800-£1000   :(

Kwik Fit are Talkin outa their Ass.. (and they should be renamed Kwik SH*t) The cat doesn't have to replaced.. Unless you have bent the down pipe section between the Cat and the manifold..

If you haven't caused any damage to that area then they can cut the pipe between the Cat and the centre box.. Then a replacement centre box section goes in it place..

If you look at this diagram you will see what I mean, Although this is for the 206GTi, but you get the idea:.. http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/exhausts_de ... ordID=2505

Note that this system is split into three parts.. 1: Cat, 2: Centre, 3: Back Box..

Alternatively, go to an independant who should be able to Custom build one, or repair the damage..

the cc exhaust does not have a join near the cat like the gti does and the gti has a different back box

None of them have a join in the exhaust near the cat.
You have to pay somebody to cut the existing pipe after the cat.

I think it's just easier/cheaper when the car is new to have the cat and middle box in one section. My GTi is like this. Thats why i know you have to get the exhaust cut. You cant replace the cat everytime you need an exhaust...

The exhaust in the diagrams only fit single lambda cars as well. Thats why i said you have to get the new section chopped as it is too long to fit on a 2 lambda car.

Whats the difference with the backbox?

Your local Powerflow dealer should be able to knock something up that is:
a) better, and
b) cheaper

I mean, it's only bent bits of tubes.

PS: Anyone know how many cats there are? When I had an Impreza there were two -- one in the downpipe and one in the centre section. Which meant you could replace the middle one with a straight bit of pipe and still pass the MOT 8)

my exhaust the other week corroded between the back box and centre pipe. if it hadn't been replaced under warranty then ecosse would have replaced the centre pipe with no problems so i don't see how you can't buy a centre pipe and back box if that's all that's damaged.

going by pug prices, i would get an aftermarket brand - would probably be better quality too going by my experience.

I only used that 206GTi diagram to show that the centre pipe is available seperately from the Cat...

Note:
1: ALL CC's have two lambda sensors fitted..
2: The 206 3 or 5 Door centre pipes will NOT fit any of the CC's..
3: The Back Box on the 1.6CC is the same one as fitted to the 206XSi..
4: The Back box on the 2.0CC is the same as the 206GTi..

So you need to get the correct part numbers for the aftermarket centre section.. Most exhaust places should be able to get that info from the likes of Arvin Merator (Timax) or Bosal etc

I will also say that the Peugeot Exhaust material is Very Very Good as it is made from comparatively thick wall steel tubing. Compared to the aftermarket stuff that is thin and nasty.. It is unfortunately only that rear flange that is a weak point as the condensation sits on top of it and rots it from inside out.. Its a common failure on the 106/206/306/Saxo etc
Mine did it a month or so back. And that was after 60,000 miles. So I had a small stainless piece made that sits between the centre box and back box.. Cost me £60 total..

after a mad journey to Saras last night (200 mile round trip) I had a look at the exhaust, took some piccies just in case (her hubbyDavid must of thought it funny to see me lying under her car at 9:30 in an evening with a camera).

I spoke to a few people in the Derby area this morning. It seems that there is now a repair kit for the exhaust on the CC as people were complaining at the price of the full system when only a small part is faulty.

Apparently the flange that joins on to the rear box is know to be of poor quailty and generally the rear box is OK.

So Saturday mornig she is heading south to see if we can sort her car out. So I am not bitter only kidding Lyndon ;) and am still here trying to help you top less lot :)

We will keep you posted and will take some piccies to put on here so that others have the right info and save themselves all this hassle. I think this repair that she was quoted between £800 and £1000 for can be done for less than £200.
