another air filter question

Hi gang,
after reading some posts here, I am thinking of fitting one of those. But should I buy one and take it to the local garage or I can fit it myself?

Do it yourself. All you need:

1 philips screwdriver
5 minutes

Honestly it's simply a removal of 4 screws and taking out the old filter and fitting in a replacement then screwing it together again. If it's a induction kit it's a little more complicated but all it takes is the removal of the air box and fitting a hose. If you just take a look you'll see how easy it is.

thanks alot mate to answer my thick question. but one last thing, which model? I think i am getting a K&N one.

I just put a K&N induction kit and it works great, i also know that the pannel works great too.

My advice to anyone out there is if you are going to get an induction kit fitted to your car, whether you do it yourself or not MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL ALONG WITH A SUPERCHIP otherwise you will eventually see the performance of your car drop!!!!

THIS IS FOUND DUE TO EXPERIENCE as i had a K&N induction kit which i fitted to my CC and the performance got worse afterwards and i thought it might be the engine but read up that these should be accompanied by superchips. Ever since my car has been like a 206 CC+++++++

I think I have read on a number of forums and rolling read tests, the K&N induction kit does cause a drop in performance due to the engine layout of the CC and Gti.

What people have reported is that they have found it very difficult to source cold air, its gets very warm under the bonet and because of that the induction kits are sucking in warm air which is a big no no when comes to power gains.

The ITG induction kit is one that they have actually proved gives a gain in BHP but its quite expensive.

I suspect that the gain from your chip is balancing off the loss from your induction kit.

Might be worth trying it without the induction kit or even with the pannel filter (I have had 2 gti's with k&n pannel filters) to see if you get even more power.

ive fitted a pipercross viper kit and ive heard it bumps about 7bhp onto it. not sure if this is right tho. sounds amazing and responsiveness i definitely improved. fitted it myself at 1.30am with a penknife, so im sure you can do it!
