Okay, so I'm looking for a new tyre.
Kwikfit - £134
Peugeot (despite advertising a price promise on their website) - £136.
Humphries - never even called me back (that's twice now)
AA... £86.
HOW CAN THEY DO THAT?
Jules, who do you use to get yours done?
Good to have you all back! Pauline

Pauline,
I had a new tyre fitted last week (only one, bought an alloy with tyre from Rob) the quotes varied from £122 down to £82. Peugeot Express Fit came out in the middle at £114. After talking to the Pug guy, he price-matched my lowest quote at £82 which was really good. I was happier with the Peugeot fella fitting them than the Kwik-Fit-fitters.

Northamptonshire -> Berkshire, might be cheaper to drive up and get it done ! Although the tyre price was £82, he managed to talk me into having the wheel alignment checked and amended saying that it was 'out by 1.5' like I know what that means ! (I only said yes as 2 friends recently had theres done...only the Peugeot way takes 15 minutes, the Audi way 1.5hours and the Subaru way - bloody ages !) mind you - it only cost me about £21, taking the bill to £114 which was the original quote for the tyre !!! (he did fit Robs alloy for free and only charged balancing).
One thing to note, noone seems to stock the tyres so call at least a day in advance.
Out of interest, how many miles have you done ? Mine had covered a little over 20K before being changed (and they were very, very illegal !)

Presumably were talking about Good Year F1's here?
Well if we are then the lowest I have paid is £76 in fitting... That is full retail price, not a trade special..

Goodyear F1's indeed, I was offered Dunlops p3000 (?) but decided to stick with the original tyres. I only bought one so thought £82 was a good price, that included valve (£1+vat), environmental casing disposal (£1.50+vat) and balancing (£3.50+vat) so the tyre only actually cost £75. I can't wait until next year when I'll need 4 of them.....

Kwik-Fit are now running a campaign where they WILL price match anybody elses prices.
Thios may have something to do with me complaining about one centre not offering a price match. I complained and they investigated and the manager was sacked. Turns out he was fiddling
So they are having a nationwide campaign. Dont take no for ananswer.

Funny, the generosity of schemes like Kwik Fit "price matches" never cease to amaze me!
If they don't catch the unsuspecting punter at the potentially higher prices then they'll come clean and discount it to match competitors
OK, I know it could be difficult for companies like Kwik Fit to constantly monitor the prices of their competitors 24 hrs a day but the current scheme must only be a win-win situation for Kwik Fit and who can blame them, seems only basic business sense to me.
But what about the customer? What extra incentive does the weary punter have for trudging back to Kwik Fit only for them to merely match the price - no generousity there then.
Come on Kwik Fit etc, how about a bout of real generousity such as an extra 5-10% off the price of your competitors tyres if punters find them cheaper elsewhere. That really would reassure punters that tyres were truely competitively priced and maybe your volume of sales would outway the extra costs incurred through competitive reductions.
Still I suppose some will benefit from the current price match scheme. Those customers who had the time and sense to ring around first for quotes then approach Kwik Fit to match and fit if they end up being the nearest garage out of convenience sake.
Mind you, I had a friend who worked for Kwik-Fit, he came home with all numbers of horror stories and I have had real horror stories of my own encounters as a punter there - now when I see that blue logo looming up over the horizon I can't drive fast enough in the opposite direction.
(sorry all - forgot to fit Pug somewhere in this rambling pile of words)

They arent the best in the world unless you watch em like a hawk.
The benefits of buying from them is that you could take out one of their "store cards".
This means that if you spend over £100 in any single transaction that they dont send you a bill for 3 months. Then you get a month to pay.
4 months interest free - sounds good to me. Would rather my money stayed with me a bit longer earning a few more pennies interest

Hmm that sounds interesting, better than having to pay it off in one go in a month on a credit card if you don't want to incurr the interest.
Still, I don't like the way they always seem to suggest to me that I need new tyres and brake discs everytime I go in when I clearly don't (amongst other things) I feel sorry for those unsuspecting punters who know little about cars.
Robbie.

Hi everyone!
Sorry for not replying Pauline but I have been on holiday all week sunning myself!
(Didn't see any CC's though!)
I seem to have won the prize for cheapest Eagle F1's so far! I paid £136.30 for 2 which included fitting, balancing and VAT.
The company is local (Berkshire) but I have his number if anyone is interested. He is also mobile so he comes to you!
My car has just done over 10,000 miles but the front tyres I am sure were illegally bald! Something to do with the way it is driven????

oh dear I must drive like some 'old fart'.
I usually get 40,000 - 50,000 miles out of a tyre.
Must drive te puma harder - or maybe not. Have shopped around and the cheapest one of those suckers costs is £165 a tyre.
Multiply that by 8 tyres and a leaking roof seems tempting again
