According to speedtest NTL is generally quite good, about the same a BT. Freeserve is sposed to be better and Tiscali is the biggest pile of poo out there!

I also use NTL Broadband/600K No problems at all Now :D ... Thinking of trying 1Mb
Mind you Paul, they had major problems in town last Wed/Thu... Been OK since..

BUT to get good service I had to specify a specific LAN.. I do not use Auto settings Cos that did cause me some major headaches..

Unclick Auto in "Connections" & "LAN" settings.. Then click "use Proxy" and set it to 62.252.32.4 and port No 8080..
Also click "Bypass Proxy for Local Addresses"

Speed test gives me 590K average..

Big discussion on this forum.. Look here for further info

I agree with ya Paul - its POO!!!

I had no internet at all for most of the morning last week, and again in the evening  According to the server status line it was a problem in the Swindon Area.

Have also had loads of problems with email, soooooooo slow to check and most of the time I get an error message to say that my POP server isn't responding GRRRRR

Will what u posted Webcode help the email prob???

Riss,

altering the proxy wont effect the email, its just NTLs email servers can be slow at times, mine is the same, its something you learn to live with NTL, theres too many people on their network, they have to constantly upgrade it.

Webcode,

I would recommend the 1mb connection, you cant beat 120k a second download speed, unless you are on a T3 uni connection.

Oh yeah that's right, you guys rub it in! I can't even get broadband as my local exchange doesn't support it with living in the sticks. Should be different when I move though! Until then will have to put up with being booted every 2 hours (Or 10 mins over the last couple of nights) Booooo!

I don't think it's just NTL's internet service, their cable service has been terrible for nearly a fortnight.
Everyone in my office has to keep rebooting the cable box, and can you get through to customer services?
Can you b*****ks.
Just because you're paranoid, it don't mean they're not after you.
