Well i've been a mortgage advisor (and did lot's of other things at the bank) at my previous job.
But i can't help you with this one, because our legal and tax systems are so much different. Finance on houses is here usually 75%-125%. But we can deduct the amount of paid interest from our tax payment.
It's very common (and cheaper in the end) to use a (life-)insurance with your mortgage or to spread the money in funds.
But one thing is true. Don't trust 'independent' mortgage advisors. Then rather go to a bank and ask for advise. Everything you hear and see which doesn't have your signature on it is free, and you can do with it what you want

Generally vanda avoid 'best buy' mortgages which usually only offer discounts for a few months to get into the top ten mortgage rates. Abbey National and Northern Rock are ALMOST always going to be close to the best, along with Nationwide a lot of the time. I have £83,000 outstanding at 3.99% with Abbey National, and can pay up to £10,000 per year in overpayments. Also, they hold on to your deeds for free once you have repaid as long as you leave a 50p balance on the mortgage
I am thinking of taking out another £20,000 - £30,000 on the mortgage soon and will almost certainly be going with one of these 3 lenders

Are Alliance and Leicester any good?
Have found a deal with them which seems to be really good. Discount mortgage for 5 years stepped rates which are affordable, cash back free survey etc.
Is anyone with them?

Have you tried scotland? I'm sure a place in dundee or fife cant be much more than £1,500Because my dear boy I can't find anything for sale between the 1-2k price bracket!!
Or wales - its cheap to live there too. Failing that you can come live in my garage
