Four seater convertible?

Consider the following: I'm married and have two kids, and we're planning on a third. I currently have a Scoob and a Pug 406, and the wife has a 206CC. I'm getting rid of the 406 as I'm now working in London and don't need a car to commute.

The dilemma is that I'm thinking of getting shot of the Scoob and getting a Honda NSX instead. It's only got two seats. We're going to need a "family car" but wifey won't want to get rid of the CC and I can barely justify two cars with me getting the train every day, let alone three.

Any thoughts on what sort of 4-seat convertible would make a good replacement for the CC? Requirements are:
1) Must be available (new or second hand) for <£20k
2) Must look "cool"
3) Must be T-reg or newer (private plate)
4) Must not be a 307CC (don't like 'em)

Current thoughts are either a BMW 3-series (but there's that "w4nker" tag that goes with them"), an A4 (but they've only just come out and they're pricey), a Saab 9-3 (wifey doesn't like them) or some sort of Merc (but they're expensive).

Any other options? Maybe we'll end up keeping the CC and running three cars anyway...

Its a hard one, I can only think of a couple of possibles. Hows about the volvo convertable, (i think its the C70), quite a cool looking car and around 16k now.

My other choice would be a jag XK8 convertable, though older examples are a bit over the 20k mark but the 4 seats are pure luxury, also I hear its pretty reliable.

Have a look on the web for the Megane CC that is gonna come out in a couple of months (starts around 17k).

Apart from this .. sorry can't think of others. 307CC Maybe (but probably not). Again not quite out yet.

Or you could go for a 'classic' car .. some nice old convertible mercedes from the 70s or earlier -- can pick them up for bugger-all nowadays. Not my cup of tea, but might do it for you ???

Ahh the RX-8. They were supposed to be available in June then my local dealer said September now its November at the earliest. Ive heard all this somewhere before.
Apparently there are a few cars doing the rounds of the dealers, does anyone here know where I can see one. I dont want to place an order until Ive seen it in the flesh, the CC has got to go, Im fed up with the noise coming from the back. I a horrible groan along the lines of ‘Dad, move your seat forward’ or ‘Dad Ive got no room’ and it seems to be getting worse. Im sure the RX-8 will have enough room but I couldnt stand the sulking if I got it wrong, so I need to see one first.

Why the rack? They can just go in the boot. :D

Actually that was what I should have pointed out -- I want a 'proper' four seater, i.e. one where someone can sit in the middle of the rear seat. That rules out any of the 2+2 types.

BTW I don't know why anyone thinks an XK8 is a four seater. It's a two seater with an upholstered bit to put your briefcase in. It's also ludicrously expensive.

RX8 would be nice, but again it's a 2+2.

I had this dilemma too, 4 seats and topless.

Go on, get an A4 Cabriolet  Although there is no way I can get 4 people in it without drastically changing my driving position (which I find terribly uncomfortable on longer journeys)

Another alternative is the Audi Cabriolet, the design is timeless, there are some exceptional models around and at very reasonable prices (recently saw a 'w-reg' locally for just under £9K) The new A4 is not all that disimilar to the old cab from the back.

someone suggested the C70, nice looking - but it's still a Volvo, although they are finished to an exceptional standard.

RX-8, beautiful. Not a cabriolet though. That coupled with the fact they keep putting back launch dates - they're obviously having some problems with it.

I steered clear of the BMW cabs as the roof is too angular and does not suit the car when up, although when down it is a very good looking car.

IMO the XK8 isn't a bad 4 seater, assuming it hasn't changed, shame its only a 2 + 2 though. It isn't one for long journeys with adults in the back, but my daughter seemed alright. New the XK8 is a silly price but get one of the earlier convertibles and its a lot of style and kit for around 24k.

Dunno why we even bother replying to your threads, your always negative in the extreme no matter what subject/ people say/ come up with.
