**WARNING**
**SERIOUS REPLY ALERT**
**ANYONE NOT WANTING A HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY LESSON SHOULD TURN AWAY FROM THIS PAGE NOW**

Yep it's the flag of St Piran, who is the patron saint of miners, which has become the unofficial offical flag of Cornwall.

Duncan's right, the official cornish emblem is the sheild, and it's load of balls. 15 to be precise that represent 15 byzantine gold coins paid as ransom to the Saracens for the release of the Earl of Cornwall in the ninth century. The motto 'One and All' is said to commemorate the voluntary efforts of the Cornish people to raise this ransom. Normally seen as on the County Crest with the sheild and the miner and the fisherman (in days gone by these were the main trades of the Cornish) as below:

(How do I insert the picture that this link points to?)

A Cornish flag car sticker is a useful thing to have on your car in Corwall to distinguish locals from emmits! Especially if it has Kernow on it. Helpful such as to get discount from those old fashioned beach car parks where there is still a man in a hut :D

I can bore you for hours about things Cornish. :sawery:

I'm not biting on your idea of a Cornish flag CB...

Not sure why samwise has got it, apart from he's nicked my avatar!

Yes, it's true, I stole your avatar!

Having been here for several month now I still hadn't found one to use and thought if it were good enough for the car ......

As it's been pointed out an "Emmit" is a non-local. Oh, you can image the hours of fun my friends had seeing my surname's Emmett.

And yes, there is a Cornish language, and no, I don't speak a word. You sometimes see town signs with a welcome in Cornish underneath but that's about it.

Oh and for special occasions (strangely enough, not so much in Cornwall) you'll even see people in kilts. Well it's nice to be different if anyone else is black tie.

Cheers

Jason

Emmit

A cornish friend one told me this work ment ant in cornish dialect and was not a very polite word for describing the hoards of tourist that swarm into Cornwall during the summer months blocking roads and filling beeches.

before i repeated that I thought I'd check....google gave me nothing for emmit but gave the expected answer for emmet instead so i guess emmet the more usuall spelling. Anyone know better?

Sent you one back!

At least my flag waves and your's is an inferior non-wavey one. :D

No CB, neither of us own a tractor, combine harvester or rotivator.

And just to clear up another stereotype, I have only got 5 digits at the end of each of my four limbs. And I have 2 eyebrows.
Can't vouch for samwise though, he's from further west than me! ;)
