wrench for oil filter

Hello frends,
It seems I need a special wrench to unscrew/screw oil filter case.
Can anybody please give me some advise?

Halfords do them really cheap but the oil filters are a pain in the ar5e to get off, also once you start you have to finish as starting busts the oil filter and don't use the wrench to put the new oil filter on,

The easiest and cheapest way is to stap a screwdriver into the filter and use that to unscrew it. After all you don't need it anymore so who cares if its busted. Just make sure there is a tray underneath to catch the oil.

Can be quite tricky depending on where abouts its located but yes this is probably the best way to sort it

No dont push a screwdriver through the filter... Youre gonna have little bits of debris (metal splinters, bits of filter paper)as a result, granted they will probably be in the filter and current oil that you'll be throwing away but do you want to run the risk of getting that into the engine?
For the sake of a few quid for the correct tool, i'd go for the 'right tool for the right job' thats probably why they sell them.

Also i hadn't thought of that, i've used a filter wrench everytime a changed them except once when the filter was stuck so tight nothing would move it, but that shouldn't happen on newer cars

But it is not a normal tin-can type oil filter, my filter is made of plastic housing with 27mm nut facing up ward, between radiator and engine.
Only paper element inside should be changed not the whole 'can'.
My problem is the 27mm nut is located in a very tight place, normal 27mm socket can hardly fit in. Don't even mention the normal filter wrench as you posted.
Mine is 206cc 1.6 16V, are we talking about same engine??

Try getting a strip of sandpaper and undoing it by hand. The sandpaper acts to give you grip it may come of if the oil filter has been changed before if not you will have to get a tool, you can get a claw type on which are excellent.

Well this returns to my original question, I was thinking 'Right tool for right job', Peugeot must have quite a lot of 'special tools' like Volks does......
Indeed an open wrench is ideal but 27mm wrench is too BIG and too LONG......
I think I will make a short one

Get an oil filter wrench as in my picture i posted they work really well in tight spots, also i thought you had to replace the whole filter everytime, didn't know you could replace just bits of it

The paper element comes with an O ring for the plastic housing, housing is to be reused.

I don't think filter wrench like your picture can get into that tight place.......I will check again this morning.

Ideally, a socket wrench with a long extention is the best tool for this job, it is too TIGHT and too HOT!!

I'd take it to a garage to have it done as it sounds like its in a nasty place, i haven't look at it in my CC yet

It is pretty ugly indeed, open your bonnet and you will see it stands with a big nut facing you, among exaust manifold/radiator/coolant hose, hot like in the HELL I would say......

Worth to challenge though.
