Well I've had my shiny new CC for just over a week now. Considering the recent foul weather we've had and the fact it wasn't looking so shiny anymore I decided yesterday to give it it's first wash.

So, armed with my new sponge and bucket I proudly started to wash my new toy. All was going well until the soapy sponge slipped out of my hand and onto the floor. Thinking nothing of it I swished the sponge around in the bucket and carried on washing.

To cut a long story short .. I've now got 7 large scratches on the roof of my week-old pride and joy. Duurrrr, how thick is that?! Does anyone have any ideas how I can try to remove the scratches?

Don't panic, all will be well !

First if they are shallow I suggest you try polishing them out unless they're deep but not down to the primer when you will need professional help.

If a bit deeper in that case do what the dealers do, use a bit of T-Cut compound on a COTTON or similar car care cloth (both from Halfords) rub in with a circular motion over the length of the scratch and rub T-Cut away with a seperate cloth. Keep repeating until the scratch disappears.

Then apply polish and buff to the original shine.

Robbie. :D

If this is sorted out, you can also use a washing glove. Those are washable in machine wash.
As the guy who did my Teflo-Seal recommended me.

I buy a new sponge every time I wash my CC. They're only 99p for 2 in Tescos at the Meadows and that's a whole year's supply for me :D

Thanks for the tips guys. Popped into Halfords and got some t-cut and autoglym polish. Seems to have worked fairly well except for one major scratch that seems quite deep. I'm a bit worried about t-cutting it again, I have visions of working my way down to the bare metal!

Glad to hear it helps. I've used this over the years very sucessfully. Don't be concerned, T-Cut is abraisive but not too abraisive, even a deeper scratch if it hasn't penetrated the base coat will almost always come out. I understand your concerns being a new car and all but you would have to rub T-Cut for a considerable time before hitting primer. The top coat is petty deep. Generally you use the depth of scratch as a guide, if it hasn't penetrated the base your T-Cut shouldn't either before taking the scratch out.
