I does strike me that with the new rules the goal post have not so much just moved but are now dribbling the ball down the middle of the pitch with the intention of scoring at the other end.
These new rules appear to be stopping the very things the flaming forum was suppose to allow. I have no objection to rule changing to maintain a forum everyone can enjoy but it often different to see where the boundries lie. For some rules "More honoured in the breach than the observance" would appear the norm. The only way we know where the boundries lie is when they are breached and a moderator steps in. But it is not often clear when or why this has happened or that it has happened at all. This makes those boundries difficult to detect. Might I suggest a code of conduct for moderators which ensures that all deletions and edits are highlighted and where appropriate explained and that certain practiise such as changing meaning/content of posts are avoided.
This is not a complaint on my behalf but to point out that any system of rules or laws is open to interpretation and if people know where boundries lie they are less likeley to breach them.

OK a simple analogy.
You will know what the speed limit is on a road. Either what is says on the sign or national speed limit applies. Let's say its 40mph. but you also know if you exceed it by a small margin let's say 10% you will not be prosecuted if caught. The police will have policy, they will not publish it but it will get known from there record of prosection. Although the law says the speed limit is 40mph the de facto speed limit is 44mph becaue no one gets prosecuted below that speed.

Makes perfect sense to me.
Oh, and by the way I don't think I've ever deleted or edited anyone else's post yet. If I did, I'd PM the person concerned.
