Had a quick look in the service manual and there was no mention of the brake fluid flush. Might be worth getting a second opinion on that one espeically since it costs £50!!!
cheers col, will have to go through me service book with a finetooth comb just to make sure there's nothing in there and i'll phone a few other dealers too :D :D :D :D :D

Hooray!
I managed to price match with the monkeys and they have said they will give the service to me at £126 (as I said I had got that price from another garage) (Thanks Lyndon!)
Quite chuffed with that considering I could have paid £190 and even £206 like Ben did.
Now all I need is something to go wrong!
So................. SHOP AROUND!
you should have tried for the £106 that i was quoted :D

I noticed that as I had made the deal. Might see what I can try when they ask for payment!!!
Might have to try the eyelash twitching trick!

then they said it'll help if i had a 'Emission control service' which means they put stuff in the fuel tank that cleans out the fuel injectors also some stuff in the oil that cleans the intake valves (can scan in the leaflet for more info) £24.99 - IS THIS WORTH IT or just something else they can make money on ???? ""

so is it worth doing or wot as it's only just done 20,000 ????????

Blimey, just phoned three garages in different locations, Morden and Putney near my home and Fleet and Aldershot near where I work and they were all £170-£180 and that doesn't include none of your fancy emissions control or brake fluid change. Sod grim up north, more like pricey darn south :(

Have you been using crappy petrol, or decent stuff? If you've been using decent branded petrol with detergents included then there's probably no need. If you've been filling up at Tesco for the last 2 years, it might be worth it. On the other hand, if you switch to the decent stuff then this will clear the crap away after a few weeks anyway.

Had my 20k service done yesterday. Now my car has only done 11000 miles in two years and when I booked the car in over the phone I had stated this point and explained what the vehicle was etc. The cost quoted was 197 pounds with the break fluid changed.

On the day of the service the conversation between the service executive and myself went a bit like this.

:D Me. Hello I have my car booked in for a service. My name is Mr B

SE. Ah yes Mr B It’s a 40K service.

:) Me. Err No it’s only done 11000 miles and this is the 2 year/ 20 k service. So is there a reduction in price.

SE. The 20K and 40K services are the same.

Now I know for a fact it’s not the same, but I wasn’t about to start argueing yet.

:? Me. Ok. Would you mind looking over my car as it is in excellent condition and would like someone to inspect it prior to service? Just incase any damage is done to the vehicle during the service. Sorry to ask, but I have heard of some nightmare scenarios.

SE. Oh do not worry sir. Our technicians will check it over before they start work.

:) Me. Ok, but I will obviously be inspecting the car when I return.

The service executive takes my mobile phone number and an hour later calls me.

SE. Hello Mr. B. We have found some work that needs doing on your car. The jet washers need cleaning this will be 12 pounds. The handbrake needs adjusting this will be 48 pounds. And the air conditioning needs re-gasing and this will be just over 100 pound.

Now I Know that jet washers are fine and my handbrake goes up 3- 4 click and holds the car. I am obviously a bit concerned that the service is going to be over 350 pounds.

Me. No its ok I will book it in again to have any further work undertaken. ( will I fcuk ).

2 hours later I go to pick the car up. The cost was only 128 pounds. It’s cheaper than they quoted me Great! Until I looked closer and see that the break fluid has not been changed  . I query this and the service executive states that this has been done. I check my car over and it looks ok apart from a slight grazing on the front bumper that polished out! What a relief. I turn the ignition key, to find they haven’t reset the service mileage count down. So I ask for this to be done. About 20 minutes later a tech comes out to tell me this cannot be done until the car has done 20K I therefore asked how this could be reset and after some debating I get shown how to reset the indicator  . After a good 20 minutes the service executive comes out apologizing that she was mistaken and the brake fluid has not been changed and will cost a further 50 pounds.

At this point I decide its time to go. Well the car is in one piece the book has been stamped so I get another years warranty for the cheaper price of 128 pound. ;)

On arriving home I decided to try the procedure the technician advised me and guess what? The indicator reset. Now I always like to use fully synthetic oil in my car so on arriving home I decide to change the fresh oil with some fully synthetic. Only the oil I drained from my car is black. So it looks like they have either reused my old engine oil or have not changed it. I have sent them an email querying this. Unfortunately for them I go to college one day a week with a guy who works in a castrol testing plant and the oil they have billed me for is castrol magnetic. So I am hoping he can check it out for me. This shouldn’t be too hard as my original oil was Mobil 1 and this has a slightly different viscosity.

My advices to anyone is get the service done just to get the book stamped and get the extra years warranty. I am investing in a Haynes manual and will be doing as much service work to my car as possible. As for the air conditioning re-gasing. Well it does say bi-annual in the service book, but according to an airconditioning expert at my place of work. He suggests leaving it, as the system will probably be less efficient after they have done any work, as the system needs vacuuming down and can be quite temperamental. He suspects this is just a wallet emptying exercise. But there are mobile re-gasing vans about and so I will enquire next time I see one. In reference to the air conditioning system I was told “ If its working leave well alone!â€

Pauline - why don't you ask them to price match my quote of £126!
Thats what I did and they lowered the price from £180!

Not only that, Magnatec is semi-synthetic!
