What's a reasonable price for a space saver wheel + tyre?

Charters in Camberley have said that it costs about £110 for a space saver wheel, including the tyre to go with it. Does that seem a lot to you? I'm sure I had an old parts/accessories booklet and it said it was about fifty quid...

Is it worth the money? I dread the prospect of getting a flat tyre and not having a spare.

I have to say Charters are being really helpful though - they are phoning around to see if they can find one any cheaper for me (which they will then discount) Also he offered me a nice discount off the price of the windstop (which they had in stock) got it for £190 (including vat) - not bad, especially as I thought they'd have to order it in and I hadn't even got round to asking about a discount.

One last thing - why does no one smile/wave to me when I'm in "CC" I see loads of ccs to and fro work every day - there I am - grinning at them like a looney but no response. I'm never "spotted" either. I'm very disappointed :(

Come on guys - make my day!

That does sound expensive, i thought it was around £70 - £80. Personally i have one of the old steel wheels in my boot. I have put the wheel trim on it so it doesn't look as ugly

Or if you can find a tyre, you could always buy the metal rim off me! Completely unused, obviously, as I then bought an alloy and never got around to buying the tyre... they should be about £50 I reckon?

PM me if you're interested - I'm not far from you. Could meet up at the Meadows! Pauline :D

Your best bet is to get the unused space saver wheel off Pauline. I bought one new for £21 in March 2002. I did have trouble getting prices for a Continental 115/70 R15, but finally got one fitted for £40 cash. Mitcheldever Tyres replied a few days later at £43 all in, but wanted a week to source stock. The space saver is used as a bucket under my screen in the boot and does not shake about. Cheapest alternative is to get an old 205 15-inch steel wheel with a serviceable tyre from a dismantler.
