Just wondering, at how many Kilometers (or miles) do you replace the engine oils ?

As far as i Know u can only use ultra high
quality oils, otherwise u will destroy the engine. So i guess u change every 10000Km ?

Changed the oil on my CC after 6,000 miles.

The first 18 month/20,000 mile interval before any oil change is too long in my opinion and will reduce the average engine life.

The cost of £35 including filter and labour etc is nothing for peace of mind in the long run.

Alexandros, I don't know about you but I used to change the oil and filter religiously myself, all those gimmikey blooming vynal belts/chains etc to help dislodge those tight filters. Then someone mechanic gave me the tip of knocking a long handled screwdriver through the filter allowing enough torque to easily twist off -messy but- Doh - sometimes the simple solutions are always the best.

Then I found out that Kwik Fit used to charge £14 for the filter and oil change (think they used Texaco oil). It was about that time when I did my sums and realised it was pointless getting my hands dirty anymore by doing it myself.

Don't know whether that oil Kwik Fit use would be entirely compatible for the cc though and they always seem to use the same oil resevoir regardless of your engine specifications!

(oops -just realised I've strayed off the topic some)

I've had this discussion with some colleagues. I can only see benefits for changing the oil frequently, especially if your car gets the bashing that mine does. I drive it quite (okay, extremely) hard and have settled on a change every 5000 miles.

I've now had three, and interestingly I have been charged 5 different prices, just over £50 the first time, around £35 the second time and over £80 the third (I managed to get a partial refund...long story). They apparently use semi-synthetic, although more scrupulous garages may use fully synthetic (at a price) as for Kwik-Fit - @ £14 for an oil change, don't go near them, the oil can not be of a good quality or semi-synthetic at that price, AND they once did a change for me quite some time ago and managed to overfill by around a litre, monkeys with spurs on, they are !
My advice, DON'T stick to the 20K service interval, change that oil at least every 10K and more regularly if funds allow.
