What does the alarm button do?

This may sound like a really dumb question but what does the alarm button do that is next to the passenger air bag on/off switch?

I have looked in my manual but I can't find anything on it except for its name. Can anyone help??

i think it's to switch of the interior alarm sensors which ISN't covered in the CC manual

but i'm not sure when you press it so don't

It is covered in the manual

Anyway, you switch the ignition off, then press and hold the button until the alarm indicator stays on. Then, get out and set the alarm as normal. Only the exterior protection will be active (doors, bonnet & boot).

in my manual (Y reg 2001 model) there isn't anything about the alarms

if someone can scan in the alarm info or send me their manual so i can scan it myself i'd be most grateful
