Well, IMHO, it sounds very steep for what is really a bog-standard meaningless 'P' Plate...only you will know its meaning. It would make most muppets out there just think you were driving a '96 model car and why would you want them to think that? I personally would steer clear if I were you....
BTW I'm after 'C130 MOV'

Retention means that you can keep the plate without registering it to a car. For example, when I sold my last car I paid £80 to take the plate off my old car and have its old one put back on, but the cost also included registration of my numberplate to my new car. As I didn't have a new car I had to pay an additional £25 to retain my numberplate for one year.
So even if first registration doesn't include the retention bit it'll only cost you £25 more.

Tell the company that wants to sell you P6 PHM there complete wa**ers
They're trying to con you. It's a scam opperated by many reg companies
P6 PHM
and
P3 PHM
and
P9 PHM
Are available direct from DVAL they will only charge you £250 that includes £80 assignment fee and you can retain it for up to a year without assigning it to a vehicle. Keep it for even longer if you pay a further fee (£25 i think)
Check out www.dvla-som.co.uk
or
http://www.dvla-som.co.uk/search/search ... h=phm&P=on will take you straight to the plate
It realy easy to buy just give them a call it only takes a few minutes and a credit card.
One word of caution. DVLA-SOM are slow to update their list. It took a week for the plate I bought my wife to disappear but is a fairly wide spread practice for companies to offer plates availabe direct from DVLA at a premium of £150 -£200. It is most likeley that P6 PHM is still available or there may be others you prefere more check out the web site

good advice.
also as duncan said they like their commission.
my P20G CC plate was initially for sale at £900 - that isn't what i paid for it.
also on the open market P6 PHM is probably worth as much as my K16 DDS plate was. tried to sell this off and on for the last 3 or 4 years without success due to commission charged.
just as i was ready for giving it up and getting the £80 transfer fee back that i paid to take it off my last car (+£25 retention fee), i was able to exploit a mistake by the zoo and gave then no choice in giving me the £250 retail cost of the plate and the £105 originally paid to them - good result

DVLA = B
ards!
I want a plate, which is probably useless to anyone else, but perfect for me - i asked DVLA to gimme gimme gimme but they said it had never been issued and as such i had to wait till it came up at auction - they will write to me. That was ages & ages ago and the plate still hasnt come up. They only actually auction about 1000 a year, so with all the possible combinations it could be 150 years before the welsh bleeders lemme have my plate!

Over the coming years (as in decades) plates like P6 PHM will look more obvious as we swap over to the new style format of number plates and the older style becomes the minority. I've got V8 JME but have it on retention as I didn't think it suits the CC (that's one modification I've yet to see!). Cheers
