Ok, i've got a problem ..........

Just spoke to Axa, my insurer to notify them of additional modifications. I give them a list and they come back and say they can't insure the car coz it's lowered

Nothing I said to them made any difference so I urgently need to find another insurer a.s.a.p.

I need suggested companies that don't mind modifications like below, just basic mods, nothing fancy .....

Lexus Lights, SP Wheel Arch Extensions, SP Mesh Grille, Chrome Hoops, Esquiss Porsche Style Front Splitter, Ecosse Cristal Vents, Twin Headlight Conversion, Color Coded Bumpers/trims, Lowered 40mm, Clear Rear Fog Light.

Please supply name of insurance company, web address or phone number if you can.

If it helps, my basic details are:

Peugeot 206CC 2.0SE
28yrs
8yrs NCD
No claims
SP30 conviction / 3 points 3yrs ago
Drive 18-19k miles p.a.

Please help !!!!! :(

Have you tried Adrian Flux yet? They've quoted me not far off my lowest quote (Tesco/Direct Line). They insure mods as like-for-like (they'll replace the mods not just repair/replace the car to standard).

If you're a PGAC member, call 08700 782222. If not, call 08700 777888.

Have you tried peugeot insurance? When i phones them to tell them about my lexus lights they didnt charge, and the bloke was telling me how he had just added someones NOS kit and it added 30% to the premium. If they let you have NOS then i'm sure they wont give a :censored: about the car being lowered! :D

Thats UK insurance underwriters by the way, who underwritew tesco as well, so tesco may be worth a shot, and they're cheap too. Having said that apparently the missus knows someone who has had a right hassle with tesco.

I always thought Tesco were the cheapest (apart from budget or someone like that) but then Pug insurance offered me a renewal on my hatchback at £330 (plus £30 when i owned up about my TS10  ) when Tesco had quoted about £600

Also, i got a Tesco online quote the other day at around £1300 for the cc. I havent had it a full year yet but Pug insurance only charged a couple of hundred extra when i got the cc, and that was 6 months before renewal

Derek - try Woman on Wheels if you have a significant other to put the policy in their name, number will probably be in yallow pages.

tesco are supposed to be cheap in general but i need a guaranteed courtesy car which they don't provide, only subject to availability.

i won't try peugeot as i had then from may 2000 for a year with my free insurance on the 206 1.4LX. their incompetence at the time was unbelievable so i won't put myself through that again - they were so bad that i was close to cancelling my policy with them at one point - yes cancel a FREE policy

but cheers for the help anyway :P

anymore ? :)

I'm surprised about Pug insurance, they have been really cool! Also, their kind offer of bumping my no claims up by about 3 or 4 years just for buying a one year policy when the free one ran out, even though they were the cheapest anyway, is always nice. The insurance has always been in the missus' name so far, so i am really considering buying a bog standard 106, keeping it for a year, flogging it, and then thanking pug insurance for my free 7 years no claims bonus

My renewal's due on the 10th so I'll be phoning around after next weekend. The 3 most likely so far are (in no particular order) Direct Line, Tesco, Adrian Flux.

tesco were £633 but that means £50 more xs at £225, axa was £175 with £597 policy.

direct line were £649 but with £250 xs and that supposedly includes 10% discount as my house insurance is with them.

i've put in an e-mail quote to adrian flux.

axa were cheap but are too twisted and arkward.

Derek, hows about Elephant.co.uk?

Insured my imported SLK cheaply through them an saved a small fortune, they seem eager for custom.

I had problems wiht Peugeot Insurance as well when I had my 106 - no one seemed to have any idea what a "claim" was and the incompetence of the claim handlers was incredible. I got a letter from one of them and it made no sense at all. I'll try & look it out tonight and post the words here - it's a right laugh to read!

As for elephant.co.uk, I chose them for my second year insurance on the 106 because they were cheapest with their 10 month bonus accelerator. However, having to phone a 45p per minute number when you want to get in touch with them is ridiculous. They also took months to get my new insurers (Direct Line) a letter of proof of my NCB - Direc tLine were actually on the verge of cancelling my insurance but managed to sweet-talk them round.

So for my third year I switched to Direct Line who were the cheapest (apart from Elephant) and I must admit they have been very good service wise. They're very helpful, know what they're talking about and I never have to wait on the phone to get through to one of them.

However, they are very expensive for my CC so will be changing again in several months time.

Derek,

What was AXA's increase in premium for your other mods ie. lexus lights, clear fog light, SP grill, SP arches, Painted black bits? My insurance is up for renewal on the 5th and I have to start looking around as well. My current insurance is with AXA and they sent me a renewal letter for £771 which is only 70 quid better off than last year, but when I went back into their website and put in all my details it came out at £630!!!! That's the same company and same details...what gives? Also if I take my girlfriend off it goes down to £570-time to get a new girlfriend I think! :D

Avoid Tesco at all costs, i had the same problem with incorrect details, I just brought a brand new 206cc and needed the insurance to register it, after phone call one they didn't send any details at all, after phone two they send the details of my old car, after phone call three they sent half of the chassis number when i needed the whole one, then finally after the fourth call they sent the right details, so chances are they'd be even worse with a claim
