Ming Protection System

I've ordered a silver 206cc with red and black leather and should have it in a few weeks.

I live in Melbourne and the car will be parked outside my house, generally under a tree, and will collect its share of bird droppings.

The dealer has offered a Ming protection package in three parts:

1. PAINT PROTECTION & ENVIROGUARD 2000 ($695)
Seal in the showroom shine with Teflon

Seals vinyls & leather from drying out splitting, cracking & fading marks

If I take all three parts of the package at a cost of $1975 they throw in tinted windows or SmartDOT anti theft markings at no extra cost.

I would appreciate any comments on which parts of the package other 206cc owners think are worthwhile.

the first 2 is definitely good to get.
206cc have 12yrs warranty for rust, i am not too sure whats this cover.
As for noise and moving parts, no use insulate against road noise and temp (you will have climate control dont you?) if you going to have the roof down. and 206cc have ALOT of moving parts

and i think it a general excepted fact that 206cc are pretty noisy which can be solve by turning the CD up

Ming is generally a product applied to Hyundai cars .. brother in law had it done ... his car is four years old .... has faded ...not sure what the life span of the treatment is .
I would check the fine print of the guarantee ... fully covers against bird droppings etc ... is a big claim ... I am sure there would be a proviso in there.

Sorry for a negative post here, but here goes

I have a friend who is a professional detailer. He says the claims of "teflon" etc are rubbish. It's all about easy $'s for the dealer on top of the car price. So as far as paint protection is concerned I'd suggest you do as I do and get a professional detail every 6 months, wash regaularly, clean bird poop of as soon as you see it, and use a great top up polish like Eagle 1 Wash and shine (after you've rinsed the car, spray and chamois off). My car is permanently outside, I have tress etc all around and my CC and my previous 306 Cab both have showroom finsihes throughout their life. Do the math on paying the $'s for the so called protection versus my option.

As for rust protection, forget it. I'm in Melbourne and we don't have a rust climate (unless you live right on the sea. I'd say ditch that one as well.

It's up to you, but on the list you've given it totals $2K mmm that's a set of Lexus rear lights, hoops, a new back box and change left in your pocket that you could do the security and tinting for and still have change left. Makes you wonder how much they're making when they can throw in goodies for buying the package!

It's personal choice, but from where I sit I'd say it's a ripoff and I'd steer clear.

By the way, great to see another Melbourne CC on the way!

Thanks for all your responses, I think that I'll just buy a can of Scotchguard and give the car a wash & polish every now and then.

Having a look in the forum there're a few accessories I'm not sure what they are and if you'd excuse my ignorance and simple questions I'd appreciate if someone could enlighten me.

Lexus rear lights...are these at all related to the Toyota Lexus?
hoops ...what are these?
back box ...what is this?

A These are a replacement for the original rear light assembly. Instead of having a red outer lens it's clear. The reference to Lexus is because it had the first on the market with a clear outer lens. Mazda 6 has the same.

A Those black "roll bar things" behind the rear seats. Tehy're purely cosmetic and made of foam filled plastic. "Hoops" are are an upgrade to make a pathetic cost cutting attempt turn the CC into what it was originally conceptualised to be. If you only make one modification, I'd say this is the one, and then after that go for the "Lexus: rear lights

Q back box ...what is this?
A It's essentially replacing your muffler. You won't get any more power from the car but you'll get a gruntier sound and a sports exhaust look

I thought they were roll hoops for safety? If the car rolls they're supposed to support it along with the A-frames by the windscreen...?

Nope, that's a common miscoception. The original hoops are made of plastic filled with a high density foam. They provide no structural benefit at all. In fact aftermarket chrome hoops are 10 times more sturdy that the originals, but doubt they'd do much in a rollover.

Frosty's right about the hoops not being structural. If the car rolls, the A-frame (surrounding the windshield) is what supports the car and it has been reinforced for that purpose. Presumably the boot lid is the other bit that the car would rest on. The 206 CC brochure talks about this.

Given how close the top of the windscreen is to the height of my head (and I'm average height), I am hoping that if I ever somehow flipped it with the top down, the pyrotechnic seat belt retraction would hold me into my seat and prevent me getting scalped on the road. Wishful thinking perhaps????
