Is it normal for the air con to be smelly?
It smells like something has died in my car (no jokes please!!!)
A mate said it could be something to do with the air con and that there is a spray which you can spray onto the (untechy term) bit in the engine!?
Anyone have any ideas or will I have to endure a load of sarcastic comments!?

You're supposed to use the air con regularly, ie 10 heat, and 10 minutes cool every other week. but put it on heat for 10 minutes to get rid of the smell. Irregular use can knacker the a/c which is pretty expensive, so be warned!!

I will use the a/c and hope the smell goes away. I got one of those neutrodol things so now it smells like a hospital! Ewwwwwwwwww

Some people seem to think air con only cools. This is not the case it also removes moisture. So air con also very good at demisting a car. The dehumidifing effect is un avoidable. It you have a cold surface against war moist air you will get condensation. I am sure anyone who had there air con on had seen the little puddle left under the car.

Air con can go smelly due to a buildup of bacteria in the system. I had the problem with my old KA. The dealer put special disinfectant or something into the system and it stopped.

You are suppose to run the aircon at least once a week. I have mine on auto all the time.

Thanks everyone!
I was all armoured up for the sarcastic comments! Quite disapointed!
I have been keeping the a/c on and the smell seems to be disapearing!
Lets hope thats all it is and not a dead mouse in the footwell of the passenger side! (Brakes still squeak so can't be that!)
