Went to fill up the SLK this afternoon in a rush.

Picked what I thought was the red sticker pump for lead free Optimax petrol. Turned my head round and read "lead replacement petrol" :yikes:

Dunno why shell has to have lead free Optimax as the same coloured red sticker as lead replacement fuel. After all, Diesel is a blue sticker.

I assume lead replacement fuel has little or no lead in it, but I'm still worried that such fuel used for lead fuel engines could damage my new SLK lead free engine or cat convertor, any feedback?

Come on then Alex, give us the low down :D

Robbie. :(

robbie,

I used to be a petroleum technical bod, dont worry about it at all

just 1 tank will not harm your car,i promise

its damm near it almost the same stuff, only lot more cash, making the handles the same colours means lots of folks make same mistake as you.

Elf put tvs on there sites,u go in,meaning to only put 10 quid in,stand there, get hooked on tv,next thing u know, full tank.

LRP's got no lead in, but it will have other additives to 'replace' the lead. I haven't looked into whether they will harm the cat so I can't give you the low down, unfortunately :P
