Warranty Wierdness.

For anyone who took out Pug's extended warranty, platinum cover...

Having just had repair work done to my car under the EXTENDED warranty (not the manufacturers warranty), it has been brought to my attention (by a fat invoice) that diagnostic time is not covered under the warranty.

Baiscally this means that when a fault occurs, the cost of the part, and labour to fit that part, is covered under the warranty, but the time it takes them to find the reason for the fault is down to the customer.

Checking the paperwork this is what the extended warranty states it will do, but it seems totally barmy to me because obviously they are gonna spend time finding the problem, so why wouldn't a warranty cover it?

Am I being dumb here, or can any one else see why paying for diagnostic time when your car is covered by a warranty seems unreasonable?

Not quite sure what the extended warranty is.......

I have the standard 3 years warranty and have had recent work done under that warranty. The car is nearly 2 years old and I paid nothing despite it being extensively investigated (....translated to 'quick look, didn't find anything wrong but swapped the part out anyway 'cos Peugeot pay for it).

is ur CC an import i take it and you paid for the extended warranty ? if so it is advisable to read the terms as it will differ from the manufacturers warranty.

the 1yr + 2yr dealer warranty with uk souced models is effectively a 3yr manufacturer warranty and the +2yrs is the exact same as the 1st year.

And the Virgin extended warranty is stated as being 'at least' as good as the Pug warranty. I'll let everyone know if that's true in a couple of years' time

To be clear, the car is an import, so only came with the manufacturers 1 yr warranty, which has recently expired. Further warranty cover can be bought from peugeot and that is what I did.

It does say in the leaflet that they wont pay for diagnostic time, but it is small and hard to spot, and I hadn't spotted it so thougt I'd bring it to the attn of anyone else who paid to extend their warranty with Pug. Mine lasts till 2007 because if anything ever goes wrong with that roof I reckon it'd be a fortune, and I don't want to be picking up the bill for it!

you do know that cars bought in 02 carry a 2 year manufacturers warranty even if they are imported...got that straight from pug uk!

Andy,

I took delivery of my car 01/01/02, and it was registered in the UK soon after. I spoke to my local dealer today, and conveniently he had received post from head office THIS VERY MORNING which said that the 2 year warranties were offered as of 25/2/02. Sounds a bit suspect?

If they are right then I have missed the 2 yr warranty by a few weeks

A slightly different question, if you buy a uk car with the dealer 1yr + 2yr warranty do you need to do anything to activate the additional 2 years, mine will be 1 year old in May.

your dealer should have had a form for you to sign when you picked up your CC saying that you were accepting the additional 2yr warranty.

even the dealer thought it was silly needing to do it but it was terms laid down by peugeot.

i signed it for both CC's.
