Dear All,

Sorry if this question has already been answered already but can you polish the car after it has been 'supagarded'????

I've got some Autoglym polish and was planning to give my cc the once over but it's being supagarded next week and I was wondering whether you could (or should) polish after it has been treated.....

TIA :D

No need.

I also seem to recall someone saying that Supagard doesn't like being polished.

I found that polishing after supaguard seemed to have a negative effect. Perhaps you should only apply a light coat and not rub so hard :)

I have found that Silver Seal works a treat even after polishing with Autoglym.

having used both products Silver Seal is the way forward for me from now on.

You say the nicest things Rob! Who knows, we might even switch you over to Autosmart polish one day as well!

Interesting your comments about polishing over Supagard. There shouldn't be any reason why you can't polish over it and there is nothing in the guarantee that bans it. I'd be interested in hearing other people's comments on this one too.

Quick question - what colour is the supagard treatment immediately after it has been applied?

The reason that I ask is that I had my car supagarded and there were residues of white left over on the bumper, window seals and body work which looked remarkably like standard exterior polish.....

I want to make sure that the car was supagarded and not just polished!!!

Not that I don't 100% trust the service department........

Thanks,

Yen :?

It is almost clear but dries to a whitish haze. I am sure that they will have applied the protector and not just a normal polish. However, providing you have a guarantee that has been signed or stamped by the dealership then I would not worry. That is your "proof" that your car has been treated. If a problem does occur then it will be the garage's responsibility to resolve it to your satisfaction, in liaison with Supagard. Providing you have followed the instructions laid out on your guarantee then the dealership will be obliged to put right anything covered by the guarantee. Hope this puts your mind at rest.

Thanks for the info - the reason that I brought this up is that my dealership supagarded the exterior of my car as a 'freebie' on the new purchase, hence I did not get an official warranty document......

I suppose I can't really complain because it was an after-sales freebie but I just wanted to see whether they did as they said!

Thanks again for the advice.

It doesn't matter whether you paid for it or not - you should still have a guarantee.

Hi Sue,

Thanks, I shall look forward to the delivery. I will be heading off to the gym now to get fit ready for all that polishing.

I will try and take some pictures of the results. If the camera shows it well enough. (sorry but I have a cheap camera - any one from a camera company on here ???? ;) ;) ;) )

no parcels for Sue yet so it looks like the fiesta will have to be done in just Autoglym.

Ah well, so much for the test.

Can I still get my cc supaguarded at 5 months old ? Is it recommended after 5 months of waxing / washing and accumulating dirt?

You should still be able to get the car done as I don't think Supagard is limited to brand new cars. Yes it will still be worth getting the car treated as the paintwork will not have started to degrade after 5 months. Word of warning though!!! Have a good look around your car first and make sure that there are no scratches or marks. when you get the car treated the protector seals in any existing marks - it does not mask them. If the paintwork is slightly scratched or marked in any way then you should get these removed first (just cutting the paint back may be enough). Any reputable garage should recommend this action first if the paintwork is anything other than pristine!
