but the SLK does

I was meant to ask this on the forum!! Haven't got around to it!

In the handbook I got with the cc it goes on about traction control a lot. And it says that there is a button to the right of the steering column. I haven't got this button on mine, but it doesn't say anywhere in the book that this is an option or anything, just acts lie it is standard?

Anyone got it at all? I never knew it was an option? There is a light on the dash for traction control, to the left of the dials!

I think the manual mentions Electronic Stability Program and Emergency Brake Assist, rather than traction control.

When ours is registered I'll try hooning around a roundabout and see if I can get the ESP light on

Yeah soz, thats what I meant the ESp thing, dunno if that is different to traction control?

Results so far are inconclusive.

1) I've had the front tyres scrabbling for grip in the wet, but not actually spinning properly (those Eagle F1s are a bit too grippy). No lights lit up on the dash.

2) I got the front end to drift wide on a roundabout, but with some lock applied the steering wheel got in the way of the instrument panel so I couldn't see if the ESP light was on. I also had to concentrate on not crashing...

I guess the next step is to try and provoke some lift-off oversteer, but I don't fancy doing that in a >1200kg car without some serious space around. Maybe Sainsbury's car park over Christmas

Carl, if you had ESP and it was working I don't think you would have been able to get the front end to drift wide round a roundabout. ESP on my car is designed to eliminate oversteer and understeer by locking any one of my four wheels and automatically reducing engine speed to prevent such an event occurring.

Maybe you need to try an SLK.

My ESP light flashes on occasionally if I'm having fun

I can turn my ESP button off if I want more torque to the wheels but as it is I don't really need more torque on ordinary roads.

I am almost certain there isn't any traction control or similar function on the cc. What it does have is Electronic Brake-force Distribution which works with the ABS to make sure each wheel is braking as hard as it can without locking up.

I can get the wheels to spin easily on a stretch of road by work.

Does it have the 'Emergency Brake Assist' that's specified in the manual? I guess that's the one that applies the full braking force and flashes the indicators -- I haven't tried it yet.

PS: the only reason to have traction control on a RWD car like an SLK is so you can click 'TCS OFF' before you go hooning around

Of course this doesn't apply in a FWD like a CC

As far as I was aware (so the dealer told me anyway!) the cc does have esp - all it really is though is the ABS working in opposite to how it would be if you were breaking.

I find it very hard to wheelspin my CC (though it is only 1.6!).

I am forever spinning the front wheels in my SE. When i leave my street it joins quite a busy road so you have to get out quick as soon as half a gap appears! I nearly lost it once when i first got it!
