boot rack and rear visibility

One thing that we've noticed since we've had the CC (6 days

) is that the visibility to the rear when reversing (roof up), sucks. Ordinarily I'd use the wing mirrors, but they're not that big either

Wifey's Saxo (that the CC is a replacement for) is easy to reverse because the rear window is the back of the car. My Scoob is easy too, as it has a bloody great spoiler to show you where the back of the car is. But the CC has a load of boot sticking out the back that's invisible from the driver's seat.

Not too keen on the 'electronic parking aid' solution, but was wondering if putting the boot rack on the back works in the same way as a spoiler, in that you can see it and hence judge where the back of the car is?

Any experiences from individuals with boot racks on their CCs?

If anything the boot rack reduces visability. The higher bar at the front of the rack is right in the middle if the rear screen. As for reversing its just a matter of getting used to it. I find it a problem to judge where the corners are, but thats because Im quite short.

Well you cant see the front of the car either so its just a big guessing job when parking

so far so good for me

A Spolier is probably the only solution apart from the electronic parking sensor

Actually the metal bar is quite thin so I personally had no difficulty seeing through the back window with the rack on during the 9 months I had my car.

you get used to not being able to see at the back and learn to judge things.

when i first had a test drive in a CC it put me off a bit - well not that much

I haven't had trouble judging yet, probably cos my last car was a fair bit bigger than the CC so I'm used to having less space to work with.

Tip I learnt from a very clever girl - If you're parallel parking in front of a line of shops, look at the reflections in the shop front windows to see how much space you've got.
