I've been advised by the dealer in Calais that our CC should be leaving the factory this week. So I thought I'd get some insurance quotes for the wife (it's going to be her car).

Imagine my surprise when the lowest I found was £700! She's 32, got 50% NCB, and does around 10k per year SDP + commuting. Bizarrely the worst quote was from my own insurance company, who wanted £856.80! This is 6 quid more than I get charged for a Subaru Impreza on 25k a year, Class 1 Business Use (and I'm 29, got 60% NCB).

I guess insurance companies are loading up the CC because it's a convertible, and they're traditionally easier to nick. But they seem to be missing the fact that it's got a steel roof. Sure, you can leave it parked with the roof down, but then you can leave a saloon car parked with the doors unlocked and/or open.

So far I've tried the usual suspects: Axa, Direct Line, Tescos, A-Plan, More Than, Eagle Star, the AA, Screentrade. Anyone got any suggestions?

.........but then you can leave a saloon car parked with the doors unlocked and/or open.
and your saloon wouldn't be insured.

In australia, i insured a 206 XT 5 door hatch at $AU28850 for arround $AU2100 per annum (with 60% NCB), when i trade in for the CC i imaging it would be more but to my supprise it less, at $AU44500 (almost twice the value) and it cost arround $AU1690 per annum with 60% NCB, age over 25. Out of curiosty i made some enquiry into the logic and the answer was: CC is more secure, harder to steal. CC came with many seperate panel, eg. if you damage the roof they can just replace the roof section where compare to the Hatch the whole roof panel it link to the whole body panel. Oh well , what ever the reason is, i am happy it cheaper then what i expected :)

Exactly! I was expecting something around the £500 mark (as it's group 14, whilst the Scoob is group 17).

I'll get the missus to phone around -- maybe she'll get some better answers than I have with the online quotes.

I asked my current insurer for a quote on an Audi TT225 group 17 or 18 and it was about 70 cheaper than i'm paying now for a 1600 CC

Carl I'm 28 and have just renewed my insurance with 6 years no claims bonus with www.morethan.co.uk and the quote was £571.32 the other quotes were £614 so have a look and the online quote was 100% accurate becuse sometimes I think they are wrong, Also where abouts do you live because sometimes that makes a difference www.belldirect.co.uk.

there is no cheap insurance company. everyone has individual circumstances with the main one being where they live.

this changes the quote. morethan and tesco/eagle star were nearer £900 for me and axa were just under £600.

the logic is to try as many as possible for the cheapest quote as a company that is the cheapest with someone could be the dearest for someone else.
